MouthGuards for Champions Now Available in the Philippines PhilBoxing.com Mon, 10 Jul 2006 Responding to the popular demand of people involved in the sweet science of boxing to make custom-made mouth guards available in the Philippines, Dr Ed de la Vega of Canoga Park, California made arrangements for his trendy yet very effective mouth guards to be made available in the Philippines. Dr. de la Vega transferred the technology to the Lapid Dental Centers, Inc.  An example of MouthGuards for Champions The main office of the Lapid Dental Centers is located at the Shopwise Arcade adjacent to the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. The Lapid Dental Center is owned and operated by a husband and wife dental team, Drs. Guy and Carina Lapid. Also involved in the project are the two Lapid daughters who are both dentists, Dr. Marjorie L. Nazal and Dr. Fritzie Lapid. Aranngements are presently being made to make the technology available in Cebu, Iloilo, Davao and Cagayan de Oro as well. The technology transfer was done during Dr. de la Vega'™s recent trip to Manila to watch the Pacquiao-Larios fight at the Araneta Coliseum. Dr De la Vega brought with him equipment and materials to manufacture the mouthguards at the Lapid Dental Centers. The technology transfer was hastened upon the request of Dr. Nasser Cruz of the Games and Amusement Boards Boxing Commission. Dr. Cruz and Commissioner Alex Paglomotan in April 2006, invited Dr. de la Vega to do a presentation about the importance of mouthguards during the 1st GAB Convention held at the Hyatt Casino Hotel in Manila. It was at that convention when certain people involved in boxing first heard about custom made professional grade mouthguards. Dr. de la Vega'™s mouth guards which are better know by their trade mark as "Mouthguards for Champions" were popularized by the current Filipino boxing idol, Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao started using them back during the 1st Morales fight. Other Filipino boxers who are currently using them are Rey ?€œBoom Boom?€? Bautista, Z Gorres, Czar Amonsot, Bobby Pacquiao, Disodado Gabi, Ernel Fontanilla, Jimrex Jaca and Randy Suico. Oscar de la Hoya'™s boxers notably, Kingsley Ikeke and Juan Lazcano also use them.  |
