Is Roy Jones Jr. Ducking The Celtic Warrior For A Second Time In His Career?

PhilBoxing.com

Over the past few weeks, there has been much buzz circulating around the boxing world about a matchup between former world champion Roy Jones Jr. and former IBA cruiserweight champion Bobby Gunn.

Through boxing websites and various social media platforms, both fighters have adamantly expressed their interest in making this fight happen.

On February 1, Jones Jr. stated via Twitter:

?Ok, now its bout that time. Bobby Gunn has said enough. In the gym now. He want it.......?

Since this last tweet Jones Jr. has told fans that the fight is in the works, yet boxing fans have heard no such talk about the fight getting finalized.

With the lack of news coming out of the Jones Jr. camp, I can?t help but be reminded of another time when Jones Jr. ducked ?The Celtic Warrior.? In the mid 90?s Jones Jr. was one of the top middleweights in the world, and Steve ?The Celtic Warrior? Collins made several bids to make the fight happen with Jones Jr., to no avail.

Is Roy Jones Jr. having a d?j? vu moment all over again with the new ?Celtic Warrior??

It is clear that Bobby Gunn is ready for this fight and is anxious to set the date.

Gunn has stated directly to Jones Jr.:

?@RealRoyJonesJr my pal. I have heard nothing in four days is the fight going to happen yes or no can you just say if not I will make a move?

But again, there is nothing but silence coming from Jones Jr.?s team. Are they quietly making progress to get this clash of former champions organized, or are they slowly waiting for the buzz to dissipate before Roy moves on to something else?

Roy Jones Jr. was able to avoid The Celtic Warrior in the 90?s, but after he went live on the radio and Twitter expressing his interest in fighting Gunn, it is time to put the smart phone down and put the gloves on.

It?s plain and simple?if Jones Jr. doesn?t man up to his word about fighting Gunn, then he might as well as put an asterisk next to him name when he is inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame, which he undoubtedly will be. The asterisk can signify the two times he ducked from The Celtic Warrior.

Fighter fight Roy. If it?s not in your blood or heart anymore, well then it?s time to hang them up.
