LARIOS TO HOLD CAMP IN JAPAN FOR PACQUIAO SHOWDOWN
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 05 Apr 2006
Mexican Oscar "Chololo" Larios will be pulling no stops in his build-up for the July 2 showdown with Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao, as he now sets his sights on putting up camp in Japan to allow himself more southpaw sparring partners.
Box-latino, in a report yesterday, revealed that Larios' camp is now communicating with Japan's most influential promoter Akihiko Honda, for the Mexican hitman to work out at the impresario's Teiken Gym in Tokyo.
Larios' trainer Edison Reinoso, the report said, mentioned that this fight will be Larios' biggest in his career, so they are making a special preparation before they face the fire-breathing Filipino boxing genius..
"On Monday in Guadalajara we will begin our physical preparation and weight-training, because the fight will be in super-featherweight and Larios must gain weight with muscles," Reinoso was quoted by Box-latino.
Reinoso added that Larios will train for a month in the capital State of Jalisco and leave for Japan on June 2, a month before the encounter with Pacquiao.
"We have chosen Teiken Gym, property of Mr. Honda, because it has sparmates who are shorter and left-handed junior lightweight and that will be helpful so that Larios can adapt to Pacquiao's style," the trainer said.
Earlier, Larios' camp had demanded that Team Pacquiao pay a certain amount as penalty in the event the fight gets postponed or shelved altogether, as they noted Pacquiao's off-the-ring activities.
Larios' handlers also divulged that they have already received the advanced payment of Larios's purse, sealing the July 2 event to be held at the Araneta Coliseum.
