Juanito Rubillar Works Out, Easily Dispatches Ronnie Ca?ete in 10 By Epifanio M. Almeda PhilBoxing.com Sun, 12 Mar 2006 Juanito Rubillar is not the No. 1 ranked challenger for WBC junior flyweight championship for nothing. Rubillar added a good 10-round "work out" against dangerous Ronnie Ca?ete of Cebu City in last night's "Bakbakan sa Elorde" (Rumble at Elorde's) in Sucat, Para?aque City. With former world fyweight champion Erbito Salavarria giving instructions in his corner, Rubillar sharpened further his favorite right cross to the left kidney area and repeatedly exploded these hard shots at will. While Ca?ete dished out some dangerous counter punches in the first two rounds, these were far in between and did not really threaten Rubillar's standing as the mandatory challenger to champion Brian Viloria. The unanimous decision victory was scored 100-90, 99-91 and 100-90. In the supporting event, prospect Rey Labao knocked down Roberto Moreno towards the end of the 1st round and finished him off in the 2nd with hard shots to the head and body. Moreno started bravely and wanted to carry the fight to Labao with bombs of his own. It was only for a moment when Moreno was met with the firepower Labao delivered to repel the attack. This fight brought the crowd on its feet and rightly so. They were seeing the potential of a featherweight prospect in Labao. If his early successes in the ring do not get into his head, Labao, as his name means in his native Leyte, will always have an "edge" over his opponents. Watch out for this fighter Labao. Other results: Super flyweight Sukarno Banjao beat Jun Simbajon by majority decision in their 4-round bout. Super bantamweight Noel Basto won by UD over Elmer Marcelino also in their 4-round bout. Super bantamweight Hilsan Berba survived a scare and TKO'd Michael Romulo in the 6th of their scheduled 6-round fight. Bantamweight Raymond Sermona KO'd Edward Hanap in the 2nd round of their 4-rounder fight. Lightweight Joebert Zamora KO'd Ruel Santos in the 1st round also of their 4-rounder fight.
