GAB BOXING CONVENTION UPDATES

PhilBoxing.com

Everybody at the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) from the Office of the Chairman, the two Commissioners and the rank and file are now in the thick of things this early just to ensure a smooth and trouble-free holding of the first GAB Annual Boxing Convention.

The untiring Chairman of this agency Eric R. Buhain is on top of the preparation, busy making some technical instructions here and there to all the various committees of the convention to determine possible future loopholes. The instruction is not to rush things up, but make sure that no stone is left unturned for the success of this upcoming historic event of the year as a special pro sports program of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

I reiterate, no politics will ever be involved here. This is plain and simple project to enhance pro sports the good of the nation. The good Chairman clearly emphasized, "Let us see to it that things are done not just good but better for the success of this upcoming affair".

We also would like to extend our appreciation in advance to our event consultant and marketing arm, the wonderful and reliable TEAM Asia group, headed by Hazel Bernadette M.Cruz, Alan Visitacion and Joey Fornier including the men and women in their team.

We have already set aside interesting events for the benefit and satisfaction of all the delegates and participants , aside from the day-to-day scheds that I have reported preceding this write up today, and these are the following line up:

Awards and recognition will be bestowed by the GAB Board with Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal -Arroyo during the "Gala Night" that would fall on the 19th of April ,2006.

For the first time since the foundation of the GAB in 1951, the country will be recognizing those individuals who achieved world championships in various sanctioning bodies of boxing in the world, organizations of active and enthusiastic participation to pro boxing and top leaders who have offered unselfish contributions even in the past that paved the way for the stronger development of professional boxing in the Philippines.

Posthumous awards will be given to the former world boxing champions since the time of the legendary Pancho Villa down to the great falsh Elorde. The awards committee which is the GAB boxing division will convene today to determine the winners in every category based on the guidelines and the criteria duly approved by this Board. What a great reunion on the part of the past and present boxing world champions!

And for the event of the night , that will commence on the 20th of April 2006, a title fight is now being readied by Mr.Emmanuel Flores, the boxing chief of this agency. Initial info has it that, we will be fielding three (3) undercards and one (1) major title bout and perhaps a regionally-sanctioned fight via the OPBF, PABA, WBO Asia Pacific among others or just to limit it to Philippine pro boxing championship only. And the cherry of the icing is that the event will take place at the historic place of Rajah Sulaiman plaza park in the City of Manila. That is courtesy of Mayor Lito Atienza through the ever active sport enthusiast Ali Atienza and Dondon Bagatsing. My good friend Salven Lagumbay has been approved by this Board to be one of the three top judges in the conduct of officiating the fight.

Considerable and enough space will be afforded also for trade fair and exhibits during the whole duration of the convention.A four-day display of common sporting goods especially boxing paraphernalias, souvenir items and signatured novelties coming from our boxing sensations like Manny Pacquiao and many others. The PBA headed by Commissioner Noli Eala will also participate through PBA goods and souvenir items in their own alloted booth, as well as ACCEL courtesy of our good friend Willie Ortiz, Department of Tourism ,PAGCOR, PCSO and other minor sponsoring private firms such as the realtors and many more. Its our way of adding excitement and fun for the sports fans and big lovers of boxing.

For more info and convention updates please coordinate with the GAB Secretariat at the tel nos.063-02 -817-29-25 fax: 063-02-812-46-88 .Your cooperation and utmost support is highly appreciated.
