Pacquiao to visit Leyte today; Larios confident By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 23 Feb 2006 CEBU CITY--Pound-for-pound superstar Manny Pacquiao is set to fly to St. Bernard, Southern Leyte today to be with the victims of the recent landslide that buried hundreds of people in that remote village. Pacquiao, who was here yesterday to receive a Special Award during the 69th Charter Day anniversary of the city, is reportedly concerned over the number of fatalities in that area, and plans to extend whatever help he can to the victims. "We are flying to Leyte tomorrow," confirmed Pacquiao's Filipino trainer Buboy Fernandez in an interview yesterday. Pacquiao will be accompanied to Leyte by Fernandez, Rex "Wakee" Salud, and a certain Edward, a member of Team Pacquiao who flew in from the Los Angeles. Pacquiao is set to trade leathers with Mexican Oscar "Chololo" Larios on May 20 in Manila, before he takes a rubbermatch with Erik Morales on September 16 in Las Vegas. Pacquiao, according to Fernandez, will train in Cebu for his May 20 bout. Larios, meanwhile, has told mediamen from Mexico that he will be the next Salvador Sanchez of his generation, as he plans to defeat Pacquiao in their 10-round battle in Manila. Sanchez, considered by many as the best Mexican fighter of all times, had beaten Puerto Rican Wilfredo Gomez in their 1981 duel for the WBC featherweight title at the Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Gomez had beaten an array of top Mexican champions before facing off with Sanchez. "I know Pacquiao will be a difficult fight for me. But it is not impossible to beat him. I know he is very strong and fast, but I will prevail," said Larios, who is also salivating at the prospect of getting his biggest purse to date in a non-title fight against Pacquiao.
