REN-WIL PROMOTIONS LAUNCHES ?DUGONG KAMPYON?

PhilBoxing.com

Cebu City ? REN-WIL Promotions headed by Wilson Penalosa will have their inaugural presentation this April 2 at the Cebu City Sports Institute Arena in Pasil, San Nicolas. They formally announced their entry into the Philippine boxing scene during a press conference held Thursday noon at Yayoy's Grill, Capitol Site, Cebu City.

The fight card appropriately titled ?DUGONG KAMPYON? or ?Champion's Blood? is headlined Dodie Boy Penalosa,Jr of the Penalosa Stable of Cebu City, who will exchange punches with Roel Bacquiano of the Mimi Ricarte Stable of Bislig City in a six round bout.

Wilson Penalosa is the cousin of former two division world champion Dodie, Sr. He said that he plans to stage another fight card here in Cebu in May and another boxing promotion in Ormoc City. Wilson Penalosa is still looking for a gym where his fighters will be based here in this city.

Dodie,Jr has impressed boxing icon Manny Pacquiao with his skills and the elder Penalosa was initially planning to have his son fight in the undercard of Pacquiao's fight with Shane Mosley.

?It's a bit difficult to contact Manny now,? Dodie,Sr said, ?He is busy training and I wanted to talk to him personally. But I am still planning to have my son fight in the U.S, but I know he can't make it for the May bout in Vegas.?

Bacquiano for his part said that when he heard that he will be fighting a Penalosa, he knew he would be in for a difficult fight. ?He has more amateur experience and he has trained in the U.S., but I trained hard and I will just do my talking in the ring.?

Bacquiano was referring to Penalosa, Jr.'s short stint in California last year, where he served as sparring partner for Nonito Donaire. Dodie, Jr said that it was a good learning experience for him and he also sparred with other foreign boxers. He sparred with Donaire thrice, in three round sessions. Dodie,Jr was scheduled to fight in the U.S last year but his Mexican opponent was so overweight the boxing commission did not approve of the fight.

Penalosa, Jr is still unbeaten with 3 wins, 3 by knockout. Bacquiano has 12 more fights but will have his work cut out for him. The official weigh-in will be Friday morning at the Cebu City Sports Complex. Fight night on Saturday will be at 6 PM.

The six rounder between Romnick Magos of the RWS Stable vs Anthony Sabalde of the SGG Stable of Mandaue City will be the supporting main event. There will be 4 more pairs of pro fights and ten pairs of amateur bouts featuring boxers from Team Cebu City, Phil-Aust gym, Omega boxing gym and Sanai Gym. This card is also held in cooperation with the Cebu City Sports Commission.
