CEBU'S TOP ATHLETES TO BE FETED TODAY

Cebu's best and brightest athletes who shot to fame and made
headlines last year will formally be feted for their stirring exploits today in the 29th Sportswriters Association of Cebu-San Miguel Corporation (SAC-SMC) All-Cebu Sports Awards at the Ayala Activity Center.

The gala event, which is open to the public for the first time, will promptly start at 3 pm.

Leading the cast of honorees is the 'Athlete of the Year' who will be chosen from among the 17 major awardees in 14 sporting disciplines.

Oustanding sportsmen who have shown unparalleled passion and
invaluable contributions to the development of Cebu sports will also be given their fair share of the spotlight in the annual affair presented by San Miguel Corporation in partnership with Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Smart, Rudy Project, Citigym, Air21 and M. Lhuillier Kwarla Padala.

Football patron Dan Palami, the chief architect behind the Azkals' meteoric rise to stardom anchored on their back-to-back success in the Suzuki Cup and the AFC Challenge Cup that has stirred football re-awakening in the country, will receive the prestigious "Presidential Award."

Longtime chess benefactor Boojie Lim will be hailed as "Sportsman of the Year" for his unflinching support to the popular board game using funds from his own pocket for decades now, while the outspoken Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-7 director Dr. Danilo G. Villadolid richly deserves the "ORLACSAN Memorial Award" for his dedicated efforts and active involvement in several athletic meets particularly in the grassroots level.

Palami, Lim and Villadolid will bask in the limelight alongside the major awardees that include Lindley Fran Navaja in athletics, Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons and the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters in amateur basketball, Southwestern University's Danika Gendrauli and Lorie Mae Layno in beach volley, Warren Kiamco and Rubilen Amit in billiards, Kim Lao in bowling, Donnie Nietes in boxing, Rogelio Barcenilla in chess, Luis Ansag in dragon boat racing, Irina Gabasa in golf, Jette Calderon in karting, Sabah Fadai in mixed martial arts, Kevin Cortes in shooting, UC Table Tennis Team and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) girls volleyball squad.

Special citations will be handed out to Davig G. Lim (autocross),
Banilad Elementary School-Mandaue (badminton), Mike Lopez (baseball), Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Ni?os, Junemar Fajardo, Nikee Montalvo, Patrick Nigel Go, Henry Renzal Asilum, University of the Visayas (UV)/B-Meg, and Britt Carlo Reroma (basketball), Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (CETBA), Milan Melindo, Rocky Fuentes, Roli Gasca, Mercito Gesta, Michael Romarate, Albert Pagara and Malcolm Tu?acao (boxing), Kyle Sevillano and Richard Bitoon (chess), Igi Maximo, John Rene Mier and Marites Bitbit (cycling), Charlea Lagaras (dancesport), Cheska Toledo, Jose Rafael Lipardo, Pericles Dakay, Jr., Renko Gaudiel, Clint Ligan, Oliver Colina, Aboitiz and Co., and St. Theresa's College (football), Gio Gandiongco (golf), Joaquin Fernandez (judo), Noel Espinos (karatedo) and Jon-Jon Adlawan (motocross).

The rest of the awardees are the Cebu Executive Runners Club (CERC), Mary Grace de los Santos, Mendel Lopez, Merlita Arias Dunkin and Mary Joy Tabal (running), Noel Flowers, Ayumi Ono and Beekay de los Santos (rugby), Abellana National School (sepak takraw), Marlin and Lowell Belarmino (shooting), Loren Dale
Echavez (swimming), Teodoro Martus (scrabble),Dannel Jay Tormis, Jean Phillippe Honoridez, Lemuel Agbon, Jann Mari Nayre, Val Stephen Jaca, Vince Flores, Stanley Heredia, Gerardo Heredia and Kent Abelanosa (table tennis), Glen Lava and Rinna Babanto(taekwondo), Arthur Craig Pantino, Christopher Encarnacion, Salle Mae Siso, Claire Lazaga, Clarissa Mae Fuente and Edelweiss Donaire (lawn tennis), Noy Jopson, Elmo Clarabal, Sugbutriathlon and Lorhiz Echavez, (triathlon/duathlon), and the Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA).-- [Pooled Report]
