HOOK TO THE LIVER
By Jos? Sulaim?n

The Mayan Prophecies and Muhammad Ali

The 12 grapes, the champagne and the 3 Wise Kings arriving for the birth of Jesus about 2010 years ago, put an end to the year-end festivities and welcomed a new year that we all hope will bring venture, opportunities, success and peace for the benefit of our children, grandchildren, and the new generations. They were also days of deep thoughts, of planning about the confrontation to overcome the big problems that boxing has today.

They were also days of thinking and deep reading and studying the many astrology books about the history of the universe, of our world in the universe, about the 5 evolutions of earth from a planet of fire, the planet of water and fishes as the first signs of life leading to the evolution of wild animals, and next to the evolution of the dinosaurs, and after their extinction to our present 5th evolution in the earth after millions of years.

The 4 Riders of the Apocalypses also came to our mind and today, about the predictions of the Mayan civilization, which is reviewed by all astrologers and people of science with much controversy and many interpretations, for their predicting the end of the world, or the end of our 5th evolution, by December of 2012, which is being highly considered due to the multiple earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and so many other dramatic exploits by nature, more than we have ever seen during our lifetime.

Predictions of the continuance on a much major scale of tsunamis and a torment of radiation from the sun, the weakness of the magnetic field of the earth, the fury of the volcanoes of the earth erupting the pressure kept underground for centuries, which will also take away all those devil people of the earth that have lived to bring blood running all over the streets of the world, with envy, ingratitude, hate, bitterness, selfishness and all those feelings that can be kept in the hearts of savage animals.

All those thoughts brought to my mind the immensity of our planet and the universe, and my minimal presence only as a carrier of the genes of millenary ascendants during thousands of generations in our lives, in which I must express my gratitude to our Almighty God for bringing in the destiny of my life my beloved sport of boxing, where I have lived with so many great people and friends at the WBC and others, who have devoted our lives to the service of those in the most need, the boxers, who have been born in the humblest beds in the world.

For all of the above, I am bringing to my mind Muhammad Ali, my greatest boxing hero of all time, and one with whom I developed a close and great friendship. He told me years ago how disappointed he was to see that human beings were indifferent to all that covered our earth and to those that had given their lives to make the world as is today. He said that for him to be able to understand the magnitude of time on our earth, he went to the depth of a desert and saw its immensity to count one grain of sand like one year of our planet in our firmament to make him feel like a little person as a guest on earth, the reason for which he took eighty grains of sand, thinking that those would be about the years of Allah giving him in his life, and would paint them with fluorescent color as a sign of his devoted efforts to be a great person of his time, as well as devoting himself for the help of the most needed. He would then throw those 80 fluorescent grains of sand to the ground at his feet, until the winds of time would come to blow them away into oblivion.

That was my hero Muhammad Ali, whose thoughts and actions I hope will live forever as an example for human beings to change whatever time we still have in the earth for the the good of our descendants and all generations to come.
