ARIZA SAYS MARGARITO TRIED 'POWDER' IN HIS DRINK By Gerry Malixi PhilBoxing.com Wed, 17 Nov 2010 TEXAS (Via Flying V) -- Over 50 journalists from all over the world waited for over an hour for Manny Pacquiao during the post-fight press conference. Manny walked gingerly up the stage. His lips, hands, cheeks and ears were severely swollen. Of his last 10 fights, this was the worst Pacquiao looked during a post-fight presscon. "This was my toughest fight ever"! Pacquiao acknowledged Margarito's strength and power. "I really tried to knock him out. I really did. But he was too strong". After the presscon, this writer was able to talk to Alex Ariza about a pre-fight controversy involving "powder" Margarito mixed with his water. "One guy from our team (Team Pacquiao) saw Margarito put powder in his drink". We protested immediately. Margarito was tested for performance enhancing drugs right after the fight. In all probability, he will be sanctioned". Professional boxers are only allowed to drink water a few hours before and during a boxing match. "It doesn't matter if it's gatorade or red bull. Water is the only beverage you're allowed to drink" Ariza added. "We could have actually walked out and not fight. But of course there would be a riot here. The fight had to go on". Personnel at the Gaylord Hotel (official hotel of the Dallas Cowboys) confirmed that Margarito was back in his suite after spending the night at the hospital nursing his fractured cheek bones. In my personal opinion, Margarito could have drank all the magic potion in the world and he still would have been destroyed by one, if not the greatest boxer of all time.
