Vinvin Rufino goes for WBC International title in South Africa

PhilBoxing.com

Philippine featherweight champion Vinvin Rufino will fight Malcolm ?The Stone? Klaasen of South Africa on November 6 for the WBC International superfeatherweight title at the Emperor's Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa. The 29 year old Rufino (29 W(KO 13)- 11 L -3D) lost in an attempt to win the OPBF featherweight title last March by split decision against Naoki Matsuda in Tokyo. Rufino bounced back by defending his Philippine title by majority decision over Adonis T.I. Yamagata Aguelo.

Promoter Johnny Elorde informed philboxing of Rufino's title shot during our visit to the Elorde Sports Center in Para?aque City last Thursday.

The 29 year old Klaasen (24W(15KO)-5L-2D) is a former world titlist. He beat Gairy St Clair by split decision for the IBF superfeatherweight title in 2006. He lost the title in 2007 to Mzonke Fana also by split decision.Last year, he lost to Robert Guerrero by unanimous decision in another attempt to win IBF world title.

An article written by Terry Pettifer on the website goldengloves.co.za states that fight Promoter Rodney Berman won't be surprised if Emperors Palace is booked out at least ten days before the fight appropriately named, ?DECLARATION OF WAR?.

Also seeing action in this card will be IBO world super middleweight champion Isaac Chilemba vs. Tommy Oosthuizen, Daniel Dorrego (Argentina) vs Jason Bedeman in an international lightweight bout, heavyweight Flo Simba vs Mauro Adrian Ordiales (Argentine) in a 6-round heavyweight bout.

Another interesting article related to this fight written by Bongani Magasela last September 29 on the website sowetanlive.co.za talks about Klaasen's problems with promoter Branco Milenkovic. The promoter maintains that Klaasen owes him money. Klaasen is quoted as saying that "I will give Boxing SA permission to deduct R15 000 from my purse against Vinvin to pay Branco,"

"I will pay him to avoid an unnecessary legal battle with Branco as this will affect my career. I don't want anything that will affect my career.? Klaasen also said.
