IT'S MAGBOO VS. MAGBANUA FOR WBO ORIENTAL SUPERBANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP By Atty. Danrex Joseph V. Tapdasan PhilBoxing.com Thu, 19 Aug 2010 In the same boxing event, Jay Solmiano will defend his Philippine Lightweight Crown against Dante Paulino The National Heroes Day celebration on August 30, Monday will be very fitting for what is about to happen come night time at the Mandaluyong City Gymnasium. The Philippines is still in search for the next boxing ?HERO? after Manny Pacquiao hangs up his gloves in the very near future. Two boxing prospects with interestingly similar family names will move forward and present themselves as the fighters the Filipino boxing aficionados are searching for. Ni?o Magboo (12W-1L-1D, 5KOs) of the Touchgloves Boxing Gym will defend the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental Superbantamweight title against Rolando ?Smooth Operator? Magbanua (18W-1L-0D, 13 KOs) of the Braveheart Boxing Stable. Originally, it was reported that Ramie Laput of the American Boxing Academy will challenge Magboo but Laput suffered from influenza, which forced him to beg off from this championship fight. Magbanua is fresh from his one-round annihilation of Nikong Calamba last August 1 held at M'lang Municipal Gymnasium, M'lang, North Cotabato. As he barely broke a sweat in that fight, his handlers believe he will be physically and mentally fit to grab Magboo?s WBO Oriental belt. This is Magboo?s first defense of his title that he won via a Unanimous Decision over Ray Las Pi?as last April 17, 2010 at the Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig City. In that fight, Magboo relied on his excellent conditioning and won based on his volume of punches. Both fighters will enter into this fight with great physical and mental condition. Magboo and Magbanua are equally-powerful punchers as they surely want to knock the other guy out. A knockout finish will further embellish the credentials of the eventual winner. This writer believes that it can be considered as a ?crossroads? fight for both these young boxing prospects being handled by equally capable and world-class boxing stables. Whoever wins this fight will move closer to being the next Filipino boxing ?hero? that he dreamt from the very first time he wore a boxing glove. On the other hand, the loser will remain the ?prospect? that he is today. We should not ignore the fact this championship match-up is not only a battle between Magboo and Magbanua. What adds to the intrigue in this fight is the contest of the training programs between the Batangas-based Touchgloves Boxing Gym of the Anuran brothers and the Cotabato-based Braveheart Boxing Stable of the Pi?ol brothers. If you are an authentic and genuine boxing aficionado, don?t miss this boxing show. Watch the fights live at Mandaluyong Gym on the 30th of August. In the co-main event, undefeated Philippine Lightweight Champ Jay Solmiano (8W-0L-0D, 4KOs) of Elorde Shaw Boxing Stable will risk his belt as well as his undefeated record against battle-tested veteran Dante Paulino (14W-11L-2D, 10 KOs). The spectacular boxing card will be shown on the weekly boxing show SAVED BY THE BELL. This show is shown every Sundays at 3pm in Solar TV and every Mondays at 7pm in Solar Sports.
