Philippines vs The World Presscon Highlights

PhilBoxing.com

Rey ?BoomBoom? Bautista, Milan ?Milenyo? Melindo and Jimrex ?The Executioner? Jaca answered questions from the Cebu Sports Press Corps during a press conference held Thursday noon at The Sports Exchange Bar and Restaurant, Mango Square Mall in Cebu City to promote the Philippines vs The World fight card which will be held this August 28 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.

ALA boxers Bautista and Melindo talked about their new conditioning coach Pio Solon, who is a UP Diliman graduate and a certified conditioning coach who spent time training in the U.S.

?The things that we lacked, our flaws were being corrected. He improved my strength, balance and endurance.? Bautista said. ?It has made our training harder but we know it is for our benefit.?

Melindo for his part said, ?It has been a big help. Being exposed to new training methods has improved my speed, power and balance. You will see the result this August 28.?

Bautista will face Alejandro ?Zorrito? Barrera (20W with13 KO's- 3L) of Mexico in the main event. The 30 year old Barrera is former WBC Continental Americas featherweight titlist and is the cousin of the legendary Marco Antonio Barrera. The 24year old Bautista (28W with 21 KO's ? 2L-0D) has recovered from left wrist surgery and won his last two fights by knockout.

The undefeated and world ranked Melindo (21W-0L, 6 KO's) will face Korean flyweight champ Jin-man Jeon (13W-3L-1D, 3 KO's) who is ranked number 4 by the OPBF.

ALA Promotions Pres. Michael Aldeguer attended the press conference and said that getting a conditioning coach is part of their quest for continuing improvement in their boxers? training regimen. ?The technology is available and we need to adapt to the science and utilize it to our benefit.?

With regards to the choice of Bautista?s opponent, he had this to say, ?This is a big risk. This is only his third fight after wrist surgery. But we need to find out if BoomBoom still has what it takes to go for a world title.?

Trainer Edito Villamor said that the boxers still have three weeks left in their conditioning regimen. He said that Melindo?s sparring partners like OPBF champ Rocky Fuentes have noticed the improvement in his power.

Jimrex Jaca (30W-6L-3D, 15 KO's) will fight Pipino Cuevas Jr. (14W-5L, 12 KO's) of Mexico. Cuevas is a former WBC Latino super featherweight titlist. He is the son of the legendary WBA welterweight champion Pipino Cuevas, who reigned from 1976-1980.

Jaca is in excellent shape and credits the ALA gym's regimental training.

Jaca has knocked out his last two opponents ? Ramadhan Weriu of Indonesia and James Kimori of Kenya ? since he started fighting under ALA Promotions.

?The ALA training regimen is harder,? Jaca said, ?But I feel I have improved a lot.?

A very interesting addition to this fight card is former IBF minimumweight champion Florante Condes (23W-5L-1D, 20 KO's) who will face Sofyan Effendi (10W-8L-2D, 8 KO's) of Indonesia.

The first edition of ALA Promotions' Philippines vs The World was held in Dubai last April with Bautista, Melindo and Larry ?Bon Jovi? Canillas knocking out their foreign opponents. The presscon for this blockbuster card was also attended by Dennis Canete and Chad Canares of ALA Promotions.

The boxers will have an open work out this August 22 at the SM Activity Center. Fight day is on August 28 and will start at 6 PM. ABS-CBN will show the fight on a delayed basis at 10AM the next day. Also seeing action in this card is former IBF minimumweight champ Florante Condes versus Sofyan Effendi of Indonesia, Japanese Naozumi Tsuchiyama, who fights with a prosthetic leg, will fight Filipino Marlon Alta and the colourful Jojo ?Flash? Intor versus Jaime Alin,Jr.

The three boxers had one on one interviews with the sportswriters in attendance and will be posted later.
