By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 16 May 2010
WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto who at one time had dreamed of fighting pound-for-pound king has successfully defended his title with a lopsided unanimous decision win over game challenger Ricardo ?Pelon? Dominguez.
The fight took place at the Estadio Centenario in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.
With the win the 30 year old Soto improves to 52-7-2 with 37 knockouts while the 24 year old Dominguez drops to 31-6-2 with 19 knockouts.
All three judges had Soto the winner with two judges having the champion a comfortable winner 118-110 and the third judge scoring the fight also for Soto with a 117-112 card.
Soto at one time was regarded as a possible opponent for Pacquiao who won the WBC lightweight title with a 9th round annihilation of David Diaz and then moved up in weight to pulverize Oscar De La Hoya in eight rounds, demolish Britain Ricky ?The Hitman? Hatton in two and earn a 12th round stoppage to win the WBO welterweight title from Miguel Cotto leaving Soto way behind.
