Team USA Continues Dominant Run with Six Win Day

GIRARDOT, Colombia (May 25, 2026) – USA Boxing’s Elite High Performance Squad earned six more wins in Girardot, Colombia, on day eight at the 2026 Copa America. The Stars and Stripes improved to a dominant 62-13 record after a 6-2 day on Sunday, including impressive wins from Alexis Proctor and Dustin Jimenez.

The United States got started with Alexis Proctor (60 kilograms), who dominated from start to finish, earning a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Bexcy Benavides. Proctor improves to 2-2, marking her second straight victory in Colombia. She will enter the ring one final time on Monday against Camila Camilo in bout 11 at approximately 4:30 p.m. ET.

Dustin Jimenez (65 kilograms) earned a dominant RSC win in the third round over Jose Gabriel Rodriguez, securing his sixth win of the event. The New York native won 5-0 in the first two rounds and forced the referee to stop the contest in the third round after landing a blow on Rodriguez. Jimenez finished his Copa America run with a 6-1 record and will not box on Monday, May 25. Jimenez is guaranteed a medal and will learn his final placement after Monday’s bouts.

Earning victories by walkover on Sunday were Moises Rodriguez (55 kilograms), Malachi Georges (90 kilograms), Nnajai Wright (90+ kilograms), and Gilbert Kabamba (90+ kilograms). Rodriguez will return to action on Monday, looking to earn one last win before the event concludes. Rodriguez will look to finish 7-0 as he will face Michael Zabaleta in bout 24 at approximately 7:45 p.m. ET.

As for Georges, Wright, and Kabamba, their Copa América runs have concluded. Kabamba finished 7-0 and is currently at the top of the 90+ KG weight class, with Wright right behind with a 6-1 record. Georges also finished 6-1 in Colombia and will learn his medal placement after Monday’s bouts.

Jayshannet Zapata (54 kilograms) and Yahir Diaz-Martinez (60 kilograms) also competed Sunday but unfortunately lost after three rounds of Olympic-style boxing. Diaz-Martinez is now 4-2 in Colombia and will enter the ring on Monday, facing Gustavo Carrasco in bout 27 at approximately 8:30 p.m. ET. As for Zapata, her competition comes to a close, as she finishes 4-3 in Colombia. The New York native will learn after Monday’s bouts whether she placed in the top four and earned a medal.

Due to medical reasons, USA Boxing’s Elite High Performance Squad withdrew Kentrell Rouser (70 kilogram) from the 2026 Copa America event. Rouser's health was taken into account in the decision, and he was withdrawn from the event as a precautionary measure.

Monday marks day nine and the final day of the competition. Team USA will have seven boxers enter the ring, including Jennifer Lozano (51 kilograms), Deborah Grant (57 kilograms), Kendra Samargis (75 kilograms), and Tyric Trapp (80 kilograms). After Monday's competition, the four boxers with the best records in their weight classes will earn a medal. The full schedule for Monday is listed below.

Throughout the competition at the 2026 Copa America, the United States will be led by USA Boxing National Development Coach Edward Fonteneaux (Fayetteville, N.C.), with assistance from Alex Love (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Billy Rafalko (Philadelphia, Pa.), and Jeffrey Nimo (Grand Prairie, Texas).
