MANDAUE CITY INTER-CLUB BOXING COMPETITION STARTS TOMORROW PhilBoxing.com Thu, 15 Apr 2010 Mandaue City, in coordination with ALA Promotions, goes full blast with its amateur boxing program with a 3 day Inter-club amateur boxing competition to be held at the Mandaue City Plaza Square. The tournament opens tomorrow April 16 and will last until Sunday, April 18 when the finals will be held and which will be highlighted with 5 professional bouts. The three day slugfest is organized by the Mandaue City Sports Commission headed by Atty. Hidelito Pascual in a joint venture with ALA Promotions. A total of 85 boxers are registered to join in the tournament belonging to seven different boxing clubs in Mandaue led by powerhouse Flores Boxing Club, Omega Pain Killers and Phil-Aust Boxing Club. Significant entries that will see action for their respective clubs are Mandaue City Team members Mark Bernaldez and Basilio Sultan who won the Gold and Silver medals respectively in the National Invitational Amateur Boxing championship held in Cantada Sports Center in Bagumbayan, Rizal last February 19-24,2010. Rommel Tunacao of Flores Boxing Club, who also won the Gold Medal in the 2010 SMART-ABAP National Boxing Championship in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, will spearhead the 11-12 years old kids division. Bheson Torona of Phil-Aust Club who captured the Silver Medal will also join the tournament. A five-bout professional boxing event will be featured on the last day, April 18 to be headlined by a grudge rematch between Eman Labanza against Romano Gelig. What is expected to attract attention is the debut of former National Team member Welbeth Loberanis of Mandaue City who will be tested against Rommel Banquirego in a 4 round contest. The action-packed 3 day slugfest is open and free to the public with the opening bout to start at 6 PM.  |
