Gabi’s debut night in US a success
By Dennis Principe PhilBoxing.com Sat, 24 Sep 2005
WORLD-rated Filipino boxer Diosdado ‘The Price” Gabi registered a victory in his American debut Friday night (Los Angeles Time), scoring a 4th round technical decision versus Mexican Jose Alfredo Tirado at the Stockton Civic Auditorium in Stockton, California.
The fight was stopped in the 4th round after Gabi received an intentional headbutt that caused a nasty gash on the upper left bridge of his nose.
The cut on Gabi reportedly required 15 stiches to close.
The 25-year-old Gabi, who improved his record to 26 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw with 18 KO’s, is on a roll since he was plucked out of obscurity by North Cotabato Governor Manny Pi?ol.
After settling for a draw versus Indon Jimmy Pinontoan last June 2002 in Indonesia, Gabi has scored 11 straight victories, eight of them ending in knockout which includes a smashing 1st round KO revenge of Pinontoan several months ago at the Royal Mandaya Hotel in Davao City.
All of Gabi’s latest fights in Mindanao were promoted by Pi?ol thru his Braveheart boxing promotional outfit that led to the boxer’s rise to the world ratings were he is now ranked 5th and 7th by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) respectively.
Gabi’s sweet alliance with Pi?ol however ended on a sour note after the boxer abandoned the Mindanao chieftain by choosing to chart his boxing path in the United States in partnership with American agent Mike Koncz.
