DAIKI KAMEDA WINS WBA FLYWEIGHT TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

Daiki Kameda.

Benefiting from a ten day training stint and some tough sparring at the Elorde Gym in Paranaque, Japan’s Daiki Kameda has won the WBA flyweight title with a convincing win in a rematch against Thailand’s Denkaosan Kaovichit.

The 21 year old younger brother of the popular WBC champion Koki Kameda improved his record to 16-2 with 11 knockouts in beating Denkaosan in their rematch in Kobe. a record

With the loss the 33 year old Denkaosan dropped to 48-2-1 with 20 knockouts.

In a conversation with www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports at the Southpaw Grill in the sprawling Elorde compound prior to his departure for Japan to continue training Kameda claimed he was robbed of the decision in their first meeting in Osaka on October 6 last year but would make sure to win by knocking out Denkaosan in their rematch.

For his part Thai champion Denkaosan said he regarded the title defense as ”a great burden” with his country’s reputation at stake and promised not to underestimate the Japanese challenger.

Thai media quoted Denkaosan as saying “I know that in this rematch his team would have prepared a lot of things for me inside and outside the ring but the only decisive thing is if I am on the canvas. If I am able to have a clean fight I should not miss this victory because even the Japanese boxing fans do not like Daiki Kameda very much.”

Whether the fans like him or not appeared to be of no concern for Daiki Kameda because the important thing was that the three foreign judges liked what he did in the ring and scored the fight for him.

Judge Stanley Christodoulou and Glen Feldman had Kameda the winner 116-110 while Pasquale Procopio had it also for the Japanese by a much closer 114-112.

Kameda was suspended for one year by the Japan Boxing Commission in Octopber 2007 following his loss to WBC flyweight champion Daisuke Naito. Naito was in control throughout the fight and successfully defended his title with a unanimous decision after Kameda resorted to underhand tactics that forced the referee to deduct a total of three points from him.

Among the violations committed by Kameda was when he lifted Naito and threw him down in the twelfth round after Kameda’s father and trainer Shiro who was working his corner apparently directed Daiki to fight dirty at times. Kameda’s father was suspended indefinitely.
