MARVIN SONSONA MISSES FLIGHT, CREATES PROBLEMS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 04 Jan 2010 ![]() “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona who won the WBO super flyweight title last September in Casino Rama, Ontario Canada and quickly thought he was the next Manny Pacquiao before losing his title on the scales in his first title defense against Alejandro Hernandez last November 21, continues to give promoter Sammy Gello-ani problems. Sonsona didn’t take the flight from his hometown of General Santos City to Manila forcing Gello-ani to cancel the flights of trainer Nonito Donaire Sr and Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales who were scheduled to leave for Los Angeles, Monday, together with Sonsona. There was no word on why Sonsona didn’t take the flight. www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports learned that Sonsona, who was spending his Christmas and New Year holidays in GenSan, hasn’t been training. Elite trainer Donaire Sr is visibly concerned over Sonsona’s attitude in the face of his forthcoming world title fight. Gello-ani and his partner, international matchmaker/promoter Sampson Lewkowicz were able to get the 19 year old southpaw a WBO super bantamweight title shot against the talented, hard-hitting and undefeated Wilfredo Vazquez Jr (17-0-1, 14 KO’s) in Puerto Rico on February 27. We learned that a worried Gello-ani flew from Cebu to Davao City and then planned to travel by land to GenSan to find out what Sonsona’s problem was. Meantime, Donaire wasted no time over the canceled departure to Los Angeles and had Morales continue his training in the IPI Gym in Mandaue. He said Morales worked the punch-mitts, the heavy bag and went through his regular routine. According to Donaire, Morales weighed 132 pounds but is confident he can make the 118 pound limit for his bantamweight title clash with Fernando Montiel on February 13 in the “Pinoy Power III” fight card to be telecast over the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN.
