Denver Cuello impressive in retaining his WBC Int’l 105-lb title By Epifanio M. Almeda PhilBoxing.com Sat, 28 Nov 2009 WBC International 105-lb champion Denver Cuello retained his title with a 4th round TKO over a game Mating Kilakil last night at the Ynares Gym in Binangonan, Rizal. A thunderous left uppercut to the jaw dropped the challenger hard on the canvas. Kilakil laboriously got up at the count of nine but referee Gene Del Bianco sensed Kilakil to be in no condition to continue and called the fight over. Cuello showed throughout the short fight why he is the new WBC #1 ranked world challenger in the 105-lb division and ready to challenge for the world title. Kilakil was deemed a dangerous challenger but Cuello immediately assured the hometown crowd that he was not ready to disappoint them by dominating the challenger with his imposing shots to the head and body right from the first bell. Kilakil threw bombs of his own but was simply outpunched by the determined and continuously improving champion. With Cuello’s present form, Philippine boxing could have hope high to claim another world title when Cuello fights for it in the days to come.
