On Location with Marvin Sonsona and Ciso Morales

PhilBoxing.com

It has been an eventful week thus far since the arrival of Team Marvin Sonsona and Ciso Morales in Toronto. After finding out that town mate Manny Pacquiao along with Marvin’s cousin Eden Sonsona were victorious at Vegas, Marvin was very inspired to work out as early as possible after a short sleep and a long plane ride. From day one, the two boxers have been working out several times a day with Manager Dr. Rajan Yraola, Coach Nonito Donaire Sr. and his assistant Arvin Jugarap to insure that they are battle ready and cut down to their respective weight classes, Marvin at 115lbs and Ciso at 122lbs.

Earlier this week, member of Parliament, Minister Brad Duguid along with Orion Sports Management President Allan Tremblay held a reception in tribute to Marvin and presented his WBO World Championship Belt in front of local media for the Filipino community. During this event, Ciso Morales was introduced for the first time in Canada. Both Marvin and Ciso also had an open workout session with Coach Nonito for the crowd to demonstrate their punching abilities that lasted one round.

Yesterday, an open media workout was held at Krudar Muay Thai gym in the Chinatown district of Toronto, coach Nonito Donaire Sr. worked over both Marvin and Ciso in a four round session. The crowd in attendance was impressed to see both world ranked boxers showcased their boxing skills. This was their last training session before the fight this Saturday, both boxers will continue to have sauna sessions to help them cut weight for Saturday.

Legendary promoter from Cebu Sammy Gello-Ani stated that Marvin Sonsona is still very much the same person since winning his WBO world title. He expects to develop his prized boxer on his own pace and make adjustments to Marvin’s training regiment on a fight by fight basis. Nonito Donaire Sr. has currently refined Marvin with more punching authority with more lethal uppercuts coming from both hands, the impact was heard throughout the gym yesterday. Gello-Ani is hoping that Marvin scores another KO to increase his 85% KO rate which is one of the better records in boxing today.

With regards to Ciso Morales, Gello-Ani states this is the first time Nonito Donaire Sr. is coaching him and is already having positive results. He has plans for Ciso to have several fights in Canada in order for him to have opportunity to face world class competition. He commented that if Ciso is successful with his future bouts, he will be ready for a world title. Ciso demonstrated in the media workout that he has impressive offense and reflexes. Marvin describes Ciso as a technical boxer, the two have been paired up to train together which have been a positive influence and a mutual benefit to both boxers.
