THE PAST WEEK IN ACTION 13 OCTOBER 2025: Ennis Wipes Out Lima; Vianello Defeats Barriere; Makhmudov Outpoits Allen By Eric Armit PhilBoxing.com Tue, 14 Oct 2025 ![]() HIGHLIGHTS: -Jaron Ennis wipes out Uisma Lima in the first round to win the interim WBA super welterweight title and Guido Vianello beats Canadian heavyweight Alexis Barrier in the fifth round -Arslan Makhmudov outpoints Dave Allen in a heavyweight clash -Miguel Berchelt continues his comeback with a win over Venezuelan Edixon Perez -Argentinian Alan Chavez stops Cuban Pablo Vicente in the first round MAJOR SHOWS: OCTOBER 11 PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA: SUPER WELTER: JARON ENNIS (35-0) W TKO 1 UISMA LIMA (14-2). HEAVY: GUIDO VIANELLO (14-3-1) W TKO 5 ALEXIS BARRIER (12-1). WELTER: TAHMIR SMALLS (16-0) W PTS 10 JOSE ROMAN (14-2). ![]() Ennis vs. Lima In one of the most predictable ends to a title fight ENNIS blasts out seriously overmatched LIMA in 118 seconds to win the suddenly available WBA interim title. Lima tried to come forward behind his jab with Ennis just circling looking for an opening. Ennis came forward shaking Lima with a right uppercut. Ennis drove Lima to the ropes landed two rights to the body, a left to the head and a right that sent Lima down heavily. He made it to his feet but was taken to the ropes and Ennis pounded him with punches until Lima slid to the floor. He got up again but Ennis trapped him in a corner and kept unloading punches until the referee came in and stopped the mis-match. Ennis has probably never had an easier win. Accepting this as a title fight is typical of the WBA’s cynical approach which gives sanctioning bodies such a bad name. Angolan southpaw Lima had won and defended the IBO belt but was never in with a chance of giving Ennis a fight. ![]() Vianello vs. Barrier VIANELLO comes from behind to beat BARRIER in the fifth. Both fighters were looking to establish their jab and control the action. Southpaw Barrier was conceding height and reach to the big Italian but he had faster hands and was getting his punches off first and easily darting away from Vianello’s attacks. Vianello tried to up his attacks over the second and third but was not using his jab and when he did throw a jab Barrier was walking around it and landing left counters. Barrier looked to have won the first three rounds and started the fourth landing a pair of hard uppercuts. Vianello then connected with a left and right to the head and staggered Barrier. He then exploded on Barrier with lefts and rights to the head driving Barrier to the ropes. With Barrier pinned against the ropes Vianello pounded him with head punches and with Barrier not punching back a stoppage was close but Barrier dropped to a knee. He made it to his feet but as Vianello pounded on him again he was on the point of going down again but the bell saved him. It was a temporary saving as at the start of the fifth a series of punches sent Barrier down heavily and the fight was over. Vianello wins the vacant WBA Continental Americas title. Vianello’s recent career has been a switchback. He lost to Efe Ajagba, beat Arslan Makhmudov and in April lost to Richard Torrez. He is now calling for a fight with Anthony Joshua. Canadian Barrier, a 2024 Olympian, showed good skills but Vianello was big step up from the level of his previous opposition so he will have to work his way back up again. ![]() Smalls vs. Roman SMALLS gets a disputed unanimous decision over ROMAN . In the first two rounds Roman boxed well using his 5” height edge and much longer reach to score at distance. The roof fell in on him in the third. Smalls connected with a pair of rights that dropped Roman and he only just made it to his feet at nine. Roman made a quick recovery and boxed well over the fourth and fifth altering his tactics to fight on the back foot and find gaps for counters. Smalls shook Roman with a right in the sixth and it looked as though he might kick on from there but Roman had a good seventh and outboxed Smalls in the eighth. Smalls knew it was close and he pressed hard in the ninth but was open for counters. The last could have gone to either fighter but there was no consistency in the judges scores which were 98-91, 96-93 and 95-94 for Smalls. He looked lucky to get the decision and 98-91 was way out. Smalls wins the vacant WBA Continental Americas title and with Roman rated No 11 by the WBA a double win for Smalls. SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND: HEAVY: ARSLAN MAKHMUDOV (21-2) W PTS 12 DAVE ALLEN (24-8-2). SUPER FEATHER: JOSH PADLEY (17-1) W PTS 10 REECE BELLOTTI (20-7). SUPER WELTER: BILAL FAWAZ (10-1-1) W PTS 10 JUNAID BOSTAN (10-1-1). FLY: HAMZA UDDIN (6-0) W TKO 5 PAUL ROBERTS (7-7-2). ![]() Makhmudov vs. Allen MAKHMUDOV scores a points win over ALLEN in a bruising brawl. Makhmudov got off to a good start using his longer reach and straight rights to score with Allen being forced back landing a couple of hooks but under pressure. It was a similar picture in the second with Makhmudov sticking to the jab and long rights and doing the scoring. The action was paused to give Makhmudov recover time from a low punch and he continued to land heavy single punches driving Allen back. Allen took the fight to Makhmudov in the third walking fortward behind a high guard but was then driven to the ropes as Makhmudov pasted him with those jabs and straight shots. Allen plodded forward in the fourth and fifth ignoring or blocking Makhmudov’s punches. Allen connected with a strong left hook and roughed Makhmudov up inside with the Russian looking uncomfortable on the back foot and holding trying to stifle Allen’s work. It was a similar picture in the sixth with Allen barrelling forward throwing jabs with Makhmudov again holding and getting a warming before ending the round by connecting with same heavy punchers with Allen against the ropes. Makhmudov was scoring counters on the advancing Allen in the seventh but was unable to keep Allen off and resorted to holding and leaning on and was deducted a point. An already slow pace slowed even more in the eighth. Allen had a big ninth. Makhmudov retreated to the ropes and Allen connected with hooks. Makhmudov lost his mouthguard which caused a delay. The snap had gone from Makhmudov’s punches and that allowed Allen to work inside landing uppercuts and hooks. Makhmudov was holding then was shaken by a big overhand right and Allen fired a burst of punches with Makhmudov trapped against the ropes and a stoppage looked close but the bell saved Makhmudov. There was no real power now in Makhmudov’s punches and in the tenth Allen again unloaded on him rocking Makhmudov with hooks and uppercuts. An exhausted Makhmudov could hardly lift his arms and just fired jabs and straight rights in the eleventh. Allen came forward but was caught with counters before landing a clubbing right uppercut. Makhmudov lost a point in the twelfth as he again he leant on Allen to smother Allen’s work and then backed off as Allen tossed wild, swinging punches at the end of the round. Scores 117-109, 116-110 and 115-111 for Makhmudov. At 36 Makhmudov needs a big win to get back in the heavyweight picture and was calling out Anthony Joshua but whoever he gets will have to be a name and not some set-up. Allen again shows amazing courage and a great chin but those are game loser qualities and he can only reinvent himself so many times . ![]() Padley vs. Bellotti PADLEY overcomes a slow start to edge out BELLOTTI and win the vacant WBA International title. Bellotti was on the front foot in the first setting a fast pace walking though Padley’s punches to work inside but with Padley scoring with counters to the body late in the round. It was the reverse in the second with Padley scoring first and Bellotti landing some shots before the bell. Both rounds had been close but Bellotti’s higher work rate gave him the edge. Padley had a better third as he pressured Bellotti to the ropes and landed well to the body but Bellotti came back in the fourth and fifth landing some useful body punches. The rounds had been close but the fight a tad untidy. Bellotti’s body punching was the main factor in a close sixth as he outworked Padley and caught him with a right to the chin. Bellotti pressed hard in the seventh but Padley made him pay for his aggression with a series of classy counters and as Bellotti seems to slow Padley closes the points gap by taking a tight eighth. Boxing on the back foot Padley was countering the oncoming Bellotti and despite being hurt by a body shot he looked to have edged the ninth. Bellotti’s early work made this close but Padley had more left in the tank and outlanded a tiring Bellotti in the last. Scores 97-93 twice and 99-92 for Padley. I saw Padley the winner but had it 96-94. Second win for Padley after he tasted the heady air of coming in as a very late substitute to fight and lose to Shakur Stevenson for the WBC lightweight title in February. Bellotti, a former British and Commonwealth champion, had put together a good run of results before losing on a twelfth round stoppage against Ryan Garner with Bellott’s British and Commonwealth titles and Garner’s European and WBC International belts also on the line. ![]() Fawaz vs. Bostan FAWAZ wins the vacant English title as he takes a razor-thin majority decision over BOSTAN. These two had fought to a split draw for this vacant title in January and the first half of this fight provided plenty of incidents. The opening round was close with Bostan having a slight edge. A clash of heads in the second saw both boxers cut and Fawaz almost ended it in the third. A right shook Bostan so badly that at the end of the round he was not sure which corner was his. The natural progression should have been for Fawaz to build on that but instead Bostan hurt Fawaz with a right and a left in the fourth and it was Fawaz briefly in trouble. The fight then developed into a back and forth battle with both having periods of success but Bostan looked to be picking up the close rounds. Fawaz had a strong eighth but Bostan rebounded with some solid work in the ninth and a close tenth. The judges saw it 96-94 and 96-95 for Fawaz and 95-95. Nigerian-born Fawaz, a former English amateur champion, is 6-0-1 in his last 7 fights. Southpaw Bostan loses his unbeaten tag but will be hoping for a third fight with Fawaz. Uddin vbs. Roberts UDDIN drops ROBERTS three times in the fifth for a stoppage victory. Uddin was much too quick for experienced Roberts. He was flashy dropping his hands and just using upper body movement for defence and firing home shots from both hands. Roberts stick to his job but had problems hunting down Uddin and a hard time blocking the fast, accurate punches from Uddin. After winning the first four rounds Uddin ended it in the fifth. A left hook to the body had Roberts taking a couple of steps back and then dropping to a knee. He was up at eight but went down again from an identical punch. Although he beat the count he was put on the floor by another body shot and the fight was stopped. Uddin, a former amateur champion, wins the vacant English and WBA International titles. Roberts . a former Southern Area flyweight and super flyweight challenger is a better fighter than his record indicates. OCTOBER 10 MARSEILLES, FRANCE: MIDDLE: MICHEL SORO (38-4-2) W TKO 5 EVANDER CASTILLO (18-4 Middle: ANAUEL NGAMISSENGUE (15-1) W KO 2 JOSE RIVAS (11-3). SUPER MIDDLE: PIERRE ROSADINI M (8-7-3) W PTS 10 SALIM BEN REJEB (10-14-2). Soro v s. Castillo SORO is still battling away hoping for a title shot. He outclassed Venezuelan CASTILLO with the referee calling it off after Soro dropped Castillo for the second time in the fifth. Now 37 Soro’s only real title shot came way back in 2012 when he lost on points to Zaurbek Baysangurov for the IBO and WBO super welter titles. He lost to Brian Castano in 2017 but that was for the interim WBA belt. He has now scored three wins over modest opposition but has dropped out of the ratings. Castillo was stopped by Milan Prat in four rounds last year. Ngamissengue vs. Rivas Congolese-born NGAMISSENGUE punches too hard for Venezuelan RIVAS. Ngamissengue had Rivas under fire in the first and ended it in the second. He trapped Rivas against the ropes and drove him to the canvas under a barrage of punches. The referee immediately waived the fight over to get Rivas medical assistance. This is Ngamissengue’s first fight since losing on a fifth round stoppage in a challenge to Zhanibek Alimkhanuly for the IBF and WBO middleweight titles in April. Don’t be fooled by the eleven wins for Rivas. The wins came against opponents with combined records 0-13. Rosadini vs. Ben Rejeb ROSADINI retained the French title with a unanimous decision over BEN REJEB. Rosadini boxed his way to victory over the ever aggressive Ben Rejeb. First defence for Rosadini with all three judges scoring it 99-91. Rosadini had outpointed Ben Rejeb over six rounds last October. DUBLIN, IRELAND: SUPER WELTER: DANIEL O’SULLIVAN (7-0) W PTS 10 DEAN WALSH (4-1) . LIGHT HEAVY: KEVIN CRONIN (11-3-1) W PTS 10 CATHAL CROWLEY (7-1).MIDDLE: GARY O’SULLIVAN (31-6) W PTS 6 MATEUSZ POWLOWSKI (3-6). O’Sullivan vs. Walsh O’SULLIVAN wins the vacant Boxing Union of Ireland (BUI) title with a very narrow split decision over WALSH. Pressure won this one. Walsh had the far better skills and boxed with real class but unrelenting pressure from O’Sullivan impressed the judges more and he took the verdict on scores of 97-95 and 96-95 for O’Sullivan and 96-94 for Walsh. O’Sullivan won the vacant UBI Celtic title in April and collected the vacant BUI middleweight title in this one. Walsh had close to 100 amateur fights and was a multi-time Irish champion Cronin vs. Crawley CRONIN wins the vacant BUI title with a majority decision over CROWLEY. This was another close fight that could have gone either way. Both had success over the early rounds and after five rounds they could not be separated. Crawley seemed to have the impetus over the sixth and seventh but Cronin produced the stronger finish to take the decision. Two judges gave it to Cronin by 96-94 and 97-95, while the third called it a 95-95 to make it a majority decision for Cronin. Try, try and try again as Cronin wins a BUI title at the fourth attempt after two losses and a draw in previous title fights. First ten round contest for Crawley and at 24 he has time to come again. O’Sullivan vs. Powlowski O’SULLIVAN outpoints Pole PAWLOWSKI. Despite his poor record Pawlowski proved a tougher customer than was expected. The action level was low and the rounds close and it was anyone’s fight until Pawlowski tired and O’Sullivan swept the last two rounds. The referee scored it 58-56. Now 41, O’Sullivan lost to Erislandy Lara in a challenge for the WBA secondary middleweight title in 2022 and after almost two years out of action lost on points to modest French fighter Sofiane Khati, so he needed to win this one. REZZATO, ITALY: WELTER: MICHELE DE FILIPPO (13-0) W TKO 9 ANTONIO LICATA (12-1). In a battle of unbeaten fighters DE FILIPPO retains the national title with a ninth round stoppage of LICATA. There was an explosive start to the fight as in the opening round firstly De Filippo shook Licata and then a left hook from Licata saw De Filippo drop to one knee. De Filippo then took command upping the pace of the fight forcing Licata onto the back foot. Licata had the longer reach and landed some good counters but lacked the punch to hold De Filippo off. Licata rallied briefly in the sixth but De Filippo attacked hard over the seventh and eighth. In the ninth a burst of punches had Licata reeling and he was given a sanding count. After the count a combination from De Filippo again shook Licata and the referee stopped the fight. De Filippo, 34, was making the first defence of the title and racks up win No 8 by KO/TKO. Licata was just not strong enough to threaten De Filippo. GROZNY, RUSSIA: SUPER MIDDLE: HEAVY: ARTEM SUSLENKO (13-0-) W RTD 5 ARGON SMAKICI (21-3). HEAVY: UMAR SALAMOV (32-2) W TKO 2 YURY KASHINSKY (22-3). SUPER LIGHT: IDRIS ADALAEV (10-1) W TKO 5 ADEYEMI ADEKANIA (16-2). HEAVY: APTI DAVTAEV (26-1-1) W RTD 3 SERVER EMURLAEV (25-5). Suslenko vs. Smakici SUSLENKO wins the vacant WBA Continental title on a fifth round retirement over SMAKICI. Suslenko dominated the fight over the first two rounds and had Smakici in deep trouble in the third-until the ropes broke. That gave Smakici time to recover but after taking more punishment in the fourth and fifth he did not come out for the sixth. Suslenko should be better known than he is as in April last year he outpointed Michael Hunter in an IBA pro fight. Hunter is currently No 2 with the WBA but as it was an IBA pro fight it is ignored by the sanctioning bodies and does not appear on Suslenko’s or Hunter’s record in BoxRec. Croat Smakici floored Agit Kabayel in their fight for the vacant European title in 2023 but was stopped in the third round. Salamov vs. Kashinsky SALAMOV gets his third inside the distance win of the year as he stops KASHINSKY in the second round and picks up the vacant WBA International title. The Grozny-born Salamov lost on points against Dmitrii Bivol for the WBA light heavy title in 2021. Kashinsky, 39, was having his first fight since June 2023. Adalaev vs. Adekania Kazakh-born Russian ADALAEV wins on a fifth round stoppage of Nigerian ADEKANIA. Fifth win by KO/TKO for Adalaev and second win in a row over Nigerian opposition. Davtaev vs. Emurlaev Russian DAVTAEV beats Uzbek EMURLAEV on a third round retirement. The 6’5” Davtaev does not do distance fights. Of his 28 contests 25 of his 26 wins have come by KO/TKO, his lone loss was an eighth round stoppage against Belgian Jack Muloway and he had a draw back in 2014. Emurlaev 40, had a 2-4 run including losses to Callum Johnson and Umar Salamov but was coming off a win. COMMERCE, CA, USA: SUPER FEATHER: DEONTE BROWN (17-0) W PTS 10 GRIMARDI MACHUCA (17-3). BANTAM: SAUL SANCHEZ (21-4-1) DREW 8 EDWIN RODRIGUEZ (12-9-3). ![]() Brown vs. Machuca BROWN maintains his 100% record but is pushed hard by Venezuelan MACHUCA. Not a spectacular performance from Brown but the Louisiana southpaw worked solidly with his jab to blunt Machuca’s aggression. Machuca had a good sixth and rocked Brown with a right in the seventh. There was a clash of heads in the eighth but neither fighter was cut and a confident Brown dropped his hands and boxed his way to victory over the ninth and tenth Scores 96-94 twice and 97-93 for Brown. Brown wins the vacant WBA Continental Americas title. Third loss in a row for Machuca. Sanchez vs. Rodriguez SANCHEZ and RODRIGUEZ fight to a majority draw. Sanchez started by taking the fight to Rodriguez with Rodriguez countering Sanchez seemed to get the better of the early exchanges. Rodriguez upped his pressure over the middle rounds and Sanchez switched to boxing on the back foot. Rodriguez passed a doctors inspecting after the seventh as had a large swelling under his right eye and both let everything go in the eighth. Sanchez looked to have done enough to win but it was scored 78-74 for Sanchez, 76-76, and 76-76. OCTOBER 11 ITUZAINGO, ARGENTINA: LIGHT: ALAN CHAVES (21-0) W TKO 1 PABLO VICENTE (24-4). SUPER LIGHT: GUSTAVO LEMOS (30-2) W TKO 6 MIGUEL BOLANO (10-4). Chaves vs. Vicente In a WBO Latino title defence CHAVES wipes out VICENTE in 57 seconds. Chavez came fortward and Vicente backed towards the ropes. Chave stepped in and connected with right hook to the head that dumped Vicente on the canvas propped up against the ropes. He struggled to his feet just making it at eight but was visibly dazed and the referee waived the fight over. Best win so far for the 24-year-old southpaw and No 18 by KO/TKO. Second inside the distance loss in his last three fights for Cuban Vicente. Lemos vs. Bolano LEMUS dismantles BOLANO in six rounds. Bolano managed to hold off the attacks of Lemos for four rounds with Lemos just chucking wild punches and Bolano firing back counters. The pressure from Lemus took its toll in the fifth as a fierce attack from Lemus had Bolano under fire along the ropes for the full three minutes. Lemus continued to bombarded Bolano in the sixth and with Bolano trapped in a corner and taking punishment the referee stopped the fight as the towel came in from Bolano’s corner. Lemos starting again after losses in big fights against Richardson Hitchins and Keyshawn Davis last year. Colombian Bolano had won his last five fights REYNOSA, MEXICO: LIGHT: MIGUEL BERCHELT (42-3) W RTD 7 EDIXON PEREZ (30-14-1). SUPER LIGHT: DAVID MORENO (19-2-1) W PTS 8 JOSE VAZQUEZ (19-1). FEATHER: NOLI VALENZUELA (14-0) W PTS 8 CRISTIAN SANCHEZ (9-5). ![]() Berchelt vs. Perez BERCHELT extends his current winning run to four as he beats gutsy Venezuelan PEREZ on a seventh round retirement. Berchelt made a confident start in the first taking the centre of the ring throwing plenty of jabs and swinging hooks to Perez body. Perez showed plenty of fire and scored with hooks and rights of his own. Berchelt picked up his pace in the second and third and was bossing the action with his jab and left hooks to the body. Perez kept banging back but was being hurt and slowed by the body shots and spending more time pinned against the ropes. Berchelt kept Torres under pressure throughout the fourth still jabbing strongly and hooking to the body but now mixing his punches hooks, uppercuts and straight shots and keeping up a high work rate. Perez was gutsy but almost overwhelmed by Berchelt’s attacks. Perez took plenty of punishment in the fifth but in this round he exploded in short bursts landing with some heavy hooks and made it a closed round. Perez was being forced to retreat in the sixth but scoring with sharp counters. Berchelt would not be denied. He stayed on top of Perez hammering home hooks and uppercuts but Perez was still fighting. Berchelt really cut loose in the seventh driving Perez back across the ring with punches and looked in danger of punching himself out but Perez had nothing left and his team retired him at the end of the round. Now 36 Berchelt will try to fight his way to another title shot but there are harder tests than Perez on that road. Fifth inside the distance defeat for Perez Moreno vs. Vazquez MORENO wins this clash of promising young super lightweights with a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten VAZQUEZ. Southpaw Moreno, 23, won on scores of 79-73, 78-74 and 77-75. He was 16-0-1 before losing two tough 50/50 fights in Tijuana. Lack of power was the problem for Vazquez who had won only three times by KO/TKO. Valenzuela vs. Sanchez VALENZUELA was another young southpaw winner as he remained unbeaten talking a split verdict over SANCHEZ. Valenzuela looked a clear winner so the split decision on scores of 80-71 and 79-73 for Valenzuela and 78-74 for Sanchez was a surprise . KYEV, UKRAINE : SUPER LIGHT: VIKTOR POSTOL (33-5) W PTS 10 ALEJANDRO MOYA (22-2). Former WBC super lightweight champion POSTOL continues his comeback with a comfortable decision over Spaniard MOYA. Scores 100-90, 98-93 and 97-93. Postl sprang a surprise when he knocked out Lucas Matthysse to win the WBC but lost it in a unifier against WBO champion Terence Crawford. A run of three losses saw him retire in 2023 and this is his second win since returning in January. Moya came in on the back of five wins. RIGA, LATVIA: WELTER: KAREN CHUKHADZHIAN (26-3) W KO 2 JOEL MAFAUAD (13-2). Ukrainian CHUKHADZHIAN gets a win as he knocks out Argentinian MAFAUAD in two rounds. Chukhadzhian has lost on points to Jaron Ennis firstly for the interim IBF welterweight title and then last November for the full title. First inside the distance loss for Mafauad.
