SONSONA'S NEXT THREE FIGHTS SET, 3-FIGHT TV CONTRACT SOON TO BE SIGNED
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Tue, 22 Sep 2009
LAS VEGAS -- International promoter and matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz has informed that newly-crowned WBO superfly champion Marvin 'Marvelous' Sonsona of the Philippines will take on a top ten contender for his first defense at Casino Rama in Canada on Nov. 21. If successful, Sonsona will then take a mandatory opponent in an expected blockbuster fight in the Philippines on Feb. 6 next year. If he passes the Philippine assignment, Sonsona will then take on a top contender on April 23 in Miami, Florida.
Pending the result of negotiations, Lewkowicz refused to reveal the name of Sonsona's opponent on Nov. 21.
"His (Sonsona's) next three fights have been set. It's up the kid to deliver," said Lewkowicz, who was ringside at the MGM Grand during the Mayweather-Marquez fight Saturday night because two boxers he represents, Michael Katsidis and Chris John, were seeing action.
Lewkowicz also informed that Team Sonsona is now close to agreeing either with Solar Sports or with ABS-CBN to telecast Sonsona's next three fights. "We have talked to ABS-CBN and Solar Sports and I think we will finalize the contract soon. The first one to make a good offer is the one who gets the contract," Lewkowicz, who is known in boxing circles as Picasso, said.
