GESTA HEADLINES By Rodger Padilla PhilBoxing.com Wed, 08 Jul 2009 San Diego, CA -- San Diego based Filipino prospect Mercito Gesta is looking forward to showcase his potential once again in front of his San Diego fans at the Hard Rock Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarters in downtown San Diego on Friday July 10, 2009. The fight card is billed as "Havoc at the Hard Rock II: No Mercy" and will be held at the open air Woodstock Terrace of the Hard Rock Hotel located at 207 5th Ave in downtown San Diego. Gesta of Mandaue City, Cebu last fought on May 21, 2009 in the same venue against Mexican Alain Hernandez. Gesta was supposed to showcase his potential in that fight, but the fight ended abruptly after only 44 seconds of the opening round. Referee Pat Russell stopped the fight when Hernandez dropped his hands on his side while Gesta was raining a barrage of punches on him. A short outing like that isn't exactly what a young prospect like Gesta needs for exposure. Hopefully, Gesta can get into a "real" fight against late substitute Devarise Crayton of Orlando, FL who has a fight record of 6 wins (2 ko's)5 losses 1 draw. The fight is scheduled for 8 rounds at the lightweight limit of 135 lbs . Gesta was supposed to be tested by a grizzled veteran in Damian Fuller (30-6-1 14 KO's) who unfortunately pulled out of the fight due to an unspecified injury. Gesta has been training at the Alliance Training gym in Chula Vista, California under the tutelage of Carl Pe?alosa Jr, the elder brother of two time world champions Dodie Boy and Gerry Pe?alosa. Gesta said that he already weighed at 140 pounds one week before the fight and should have no problem making weight on fight night. His trainer said that his fighter has sparred 52 rounds in preparation for this fight and is in top shape. "I would like to give my best in this and every fight to keep the good reputation of my fellow Filipino fighters here in America," said Gesta. No doubt about it Mercito. We'd love to see you showcase your talent and potential, but if the opportunity to knock your opponent presents itself, then by all means take him out.
