VERY BRIEF PROSE FROM BLUE?S CLUE FOR HATTON: DON?T PLAY ?LUCKY 9? WITH MANNY PACQUIAO By Granville Ampong PhilBoxing.com Fri, 01 May 2009 LAS VEGAS, Nevada - British Knight Ricky Hatton may not be puffing a smoking pipe. But, he has ?plenty of fire? that may have boldness to nullify the odds-makers who put him below par. Hatton says: ?Forget about the odds-makers? qualifying numbers. I am going to shock the world.? No doubt, Hatton?s confidence rather surges to a higher level. His only loss to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. at 147 pounds may serve him as his lesson-book and springboard for his fight against Manny Pacquiao. He has drawn such confidence from being the undefeated one at 140 pounds. His great knockout performance over Paul Malignaggi in the eleventh round on November 22 of last year may have some clues as to how much improvement he has made since his memorable fight with Kotstya Tszyu in 2005. And Pacquiao and his trainer, Freddie Roach, have studied his fights very well. Yes, Hatton has shown vulnerabilities. He cannot contain heavy body shots. In fact, Tszyu almost got him down with one. HBO?s 24/7 Episodes have shown that he still lacks lateral movements and rhythm to employ effective boxing skills. And with this, his brain by far cannot just develop a critical pathway that fast in a span of a few months of training. He may have neuro-vascular paralyzing shots, but they won?t just come along with fine lateral movements. And, Pacquiao is too quick to catch him in the eye at that and too agile to shun his treacherous trail. For one thing, neuro-muscular therapy takes years to fortify its desired outcome, except for the versatile or gifted one. Hatton's basic instinct will surely dictate his own pace once he gets hurt badly. And forget about what Mayweather, Sr. has taught. His pupil is likely to waddle in the dirt. Rightly so, Hatton may not be able to waltz with Pacquiao in as much as he tried to do with Malignaggi, who is much slower and less powerful that the former. Nevertheless, he may need to set up a trap for the Pound-for-Pound King to draw his card closer, in that they would have to engage on a close combat. That?s the only chance he could possibly hurt Pacquiao with a ?perfect shot? to the body just as what he did to Jose Luis Castillo in 2007 which ended TKO in fourth, only if he is lucky enough. That?s the only way he could impose his size and power at close range, at least according to his calculation. And, he knows that. Meanwhile, as for his trainer, Floyd Mayweather, Sr., his poetic intervention truly pleases everyone. But, style, speed, sixth sense and synergy of power ? Pacquiao has them all and is bound to make Hatton fall! And here?s the final clue from Blue for Hatton: Don?t play ?Lucky 9? with Pacquiao, for he will surely fight you of pure boxing skills.
