HATTON MAY JUST FREEZE THIS LATE SPRING! By Granville Ampong PhilBoxing.com Sat, 14 Mar 2009 HOLLYWOOD, California - Regardless of who respects who, fans and pundits can expect fireworks this May 2. Rightly so, they want to see droplets of blood from one?s face or a knock out by another. And they want to see fighters fighting, not dancing. After all, it?s about evolving versatility versus unforgiving aggression. But, I vouch that IBF World Champion Ricky Hatton?s unforgiving aggression may manifest an intensity of fighting only against his own fear: the imminence of getting knock out again. Striking his best at 140 pounds, Pacman may just gobble up yet another opponent in a sensational performance. Hatton will simply be outgunned, though he may never stop trying to win a round or two. But it will surely be entertaining to watch and convincing as it will get as Pacman enhances his historic resume` by claiming his sixth title in six divisions. Just last Tuesday I had a brief conversation with Igor Frank, a friend of mine who writes regularly for Burbank Times, at the Wild Card Gym during which time Pacman had his training session. He said Pacman would just be too good for Hatton. Conversely, ?Pacman is too fast, too agile and too powerful for Hatton,? said Michael Moorer, the new training assistant of Freddie Roach, whose boxing record 52-4-1 speaks volume of his ring savvy as he faces Pacman during mitts sessions. A southpaw himself boasting 6?2?? and imposing 245 pounds, Moorer takes charge of training Pacquiao at Wild Card while Roach is out preparing Amir Khan, former sparring partner of Pacquiao, for his fight today against Marco Antonio Barrera in Lancashire, United Kingdom. Banking on his signature right uppercuts and lightning left, Pacquiao may have transformed himself again from being a foreseeable aggressor into an evasive, effective counterpuncher - a precursor to his gaming rooster-like frontal attacks. Sure, it will be a fast-paced, exciting fight and the momentum may somehow shift back and forth. But not to be outdone, Pacman will press forward. He will consistently outwork him. At least, that?s what I have issue-spotted during his warm-up shadow boxing sessions at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood. And there will be more surprises. Remember, Pacman has just gained more mileage from his spectacular win over Oscar de la Hoya. Always expect the unexpected as Pacman surges to another level. Nevertheless, Hatton must keep his defense tight. Because once Pacman unloads his neurovascular-surgical shots in succession of five to seven, he may just freeze this late spring.
