GANOY WANTS TO FIGHT DIAZ IN BIG ARANETA CARD By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 04 Jan 2009 Ranee Ganoy. Hard-hitting Sydney-based Filipino lightweight Ranee Ganoy wants to fight former WBC champion David Diaz in the big card being put together by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum at the Araneta Coliseum on March 15. In the championship double-header IBF/IBO flyweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire will move up to 115 pounds to take on WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel of Mexico while former WBC light flyweight champion Brian Viloria looks to recapture the world title when he battles another Mexican, Ulises Solis. Danny Coyne who co-manages Ganoy with Hermie Bohol said he understood that Top Rank wasn?t pushing through with a planned bout between Randy Suico and Diaz and that ?if they still want to use Diaz on that card, Ganoy would gladly fill in as a replacement.? Diaz who was demolished by Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao in nine rounds last June and Ganoy who suffered a second round knockout against American Fernando Angulo in an IBF title eliminator in South Africa ?both come to fight? according to Coyne. Diaz was warmly received in the Philippines during his recent visit as guest of Pacquiao for his 30th birthday bash and said he?d love to fight in the Philippines. However, Coyne said ?it really depends on what plans Top Rank have for Diaz but if they wanted him on their big show then they can still do it. Ganoy would take that fight.? Ganoy?s co-handler said the IBP Asia Pacific lightweight champion ?realizes he let a great opportunity slip by? when he lost his elimination bout in Pretoria, South Africa and that he knows that ?he is a much better fighter than that and really wants to prove it by fighting a world-rated guy? stating that a showdown with Diaz ?would be perfect.? Coyne said that despite suffering his first KO defeat Ganoy is ?itching to get back in the ring and really thinks he can beat Diaz.?
