THE BOXING WORLD NEEDS MANNY By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Wed, 10 Dec 2008 It was the defeat of the most influential man in the boxing world, Golden Boy Oscar de la Hoya. The Dream Match apparently proved to be Oscar?s swan song as Manny Pacquiao cemented his claim as the number one pound-for-pound boxer in the whole humanity. The world?s biggest fight of the year also fortified Pacman?s title as the best Filipino boxer in history. With de la Hoya?s expected departure as a boxer after that forgettable performance last Sunday, the boxing world needs somebody who can boost pay-per-view ratings and marvel boxing fans all over the world with immeasurable fighting intensity. The Pacman is the only pugilist who fits the billing to a T. He could become the most powerful boxing personality which de la Hoya had been tagged before his fateful downfall. With the rumored retirement after three big fights in 2009 to run for a congressional seat, Pacman could still be the most sought after fighter even after his buzzed departure from boxing in 2010. While the enticement of a potent political position waiting in the wings for him to serve his people more than being a fighter, the boxing world in no end will continue attracting him to put on those hanged gloves for the sake of the hungry fans longing to see his never-say-die actions once again. There?s no Filipino boxer in sight who can approximate what Manny has offered to the boxing world. And regardless of the influence of the many alphabet organizations, we need the man who has colored the pale nation with the glowing victory never savored before by the country in any sport.
