PE?ALOSA WOULD DESTROY JUANMA!!! By Pj Magno De Best PhilBoxing.com Fri, 17 Oct 2008 After hearing about Gerry Pe?alosa's public challenge to Juan Manuel Lopez, a sudden rush of excitement from within came over me. This is a fight that is good for boxing. This is a fight that puts two of the best against each other to find out who the man really is. Although I believe Pe?alosa would be too much for the youngster, I have to remember that it only takes one punch to change a fight. If Lopez accepts Pe?alosa's challenge, the fight fans would have a potentially great bout that would keep them on the edge of their seats from start to finish. Lopez, who is an undefeated Puerto Rican sensation that carries tremendous power within his hands, has a perfect record that consists of 23 wins, 0 losses, with 21 knockouts. Meanwhile, The 'Fearless' one from the Philippines, Mr Gerry Pe?alosa brings not only experience to the table but a remarkable record of 53 wins, 6 losses, 2 draws, with 36 KO's. After comparing the two fighters I would come to predict that Juanma has far too much to lose in facing Pe?alosa. People may say that Juanma is ready; Juanma is a champion; or Juanma knocked out Daniel Ponce De Leon in the first round of their meeting, but De Leon beat Gerry. It's a viscous circle that needs level headed analysis. Firstly, Ponce De Leon was given an undeserved victory against Pe?alosa when they met in 2007. I don't know how the judges came up with their decision but I think they must need eye glasses or a briefing on how to score a fight as I saw a convincing win in Pe?alosa's favor. Secondly, although it is a great achievement to knockout Ponce De Leon, lest we forget that the Mexican power puncher has a severe lack of defensive skills which makes him an easy target and a perfect opponent for a sharp puncher that has pop in his punch. Thirdly, the experience and defensive skills of Gerry Pe?alosa as well as his ring smarts make him a dangerous opponent for any rising star. If they ever met I feel that Juanma would be too eager to engage and that would work to the benefit of Pe?alosa. I could picture Gerry defending and countering the youngster to submission. Gerry's body shots and combination's would break down the new superstar and a frustrated Juanma would get desperate which would cost him his title. I could picture Juanma reaching a little bit too much to try and find his opponent only to get caught with timed counters. Juanma doesn't have the depth of experience to be facing such a formidable foe. Yes he beat Ponce De Leon, but apart from that who has he beaten? Pe?alosa on the other hand is a 61 pro fight, two division champion that has been in this game a long time and has faced mountains of opposition. He proved his metal against Jhonny Gonzalez by coming from behind to land the perfect body shot which simply silenced the critics and cemented his legacy. In closing, I would say that although youth is on the side of Juanma, I feel that Gerry's ability to cut off the ring, his defensive skills, his counter punching ability, his chin, and his forward walking fighting style would put a halt to the undefeated record of the Puerto Rican. If Jaunma's handlers put him against the 'Fearless' one it would be another rising star with an early defeat on his resume. -- PJ Magno De Best - Platinum Constructions (PHILIPPINES) - www.total-boxing-info.com "The Ultimate Square Ring, Resource King"...
