VILORIA WANTS TO BE CHAMPION AGAIN
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 27 Sep 2008

Former WBC light flyweight champion Brian Viloria who has been a victims of a couple of questionable decisions in the past is back on track, looking to become a world champion once again.
Viloria gets the chance when he clashes with IBF champion Ulises Solis (27-1-2, 20 KO's) in the Asian gambling capital of Macau in a Top Rank promotion on December 13.
The 27 year old Viloria had a good workout in a comfortable eighth round win over Mexico ?s 32 year old Juan ?El Nino? Javier Lagos in the highly successful initial promotion of Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao?s MP Promotions at the Sycuan Resort and Casino in El Cajon, California on Friday, Manila Time.
With the win Viloria improved to 23-2 with 13 knockouts while Lagos dropped to 15-13-2 with 4 knockouts.
In an overseas telephone conversation with www.insidesports.ph after the fight Viloria whose parents are from Ilocos Sur said it was a very good fight and it was something he ?needed to get into and get me on my toes. It helped me a lot to prepare myself? for the title fight against Solis.
Viloria who obviously needed the tune-up benefited from going eight rounds instead of going for an early knockout and said he was ?looking forward very much to the title fight and hopefully everything goes well.?
The former US Olympic team member said he would train hard over the next two months and ?work my butt off? because Solis is a tough fighter. Viloria said ?we are going to try to establish ourselves against Solis.?
He said he had fought Lagos early in his career and the Mexican was ?there to survive and didn?t really want to engage me because he knew I was faster and more powerful than him.?
