DE LA HOYA- PACQUIAO IS ON FOR SURE
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Thu, 28 Aug 2008
Los Angeles, CA: ABC Channel 7 based in Los Angeles, this afternoon officially announced that the long awaited Oscar de la Hoya- Manny Pacquiao fight is officially on.
Rob Fukuzaki, Channel 7?s sports anchor reported that official announcements will be forthcoming tomorrow, Thursday August 28th before noon in Los Angeles.
No announcements however were made regarding the financial split of the much discussed fight. Neither Top Rank or the GBP are saying anything until tomorrow. (August 28th)
De la Hoya reportedly will drop to 147 pounds for the fight, a weight level the Golden Boy himself said will be no problem for him to attain.
PhilBoxing attempted to get info from Pacquiao insiders based in California. They too indicated that they do not have details and are also waiting for tomorrow to learn the details.
One insider who is based in northern California however continued to express concern about the great discrepancy in size and weight between the Golden Boy and the Pacman.
But, for whatever it is worth, he also mentioned that he will be wishing for a victory for the Pacman to seal his legacy in the sweet science.
The Dela Hoya-Pacquiao fight will serve at the ?farewell fight? of the Golden Boy. It will be held on December 6, 2008 at the MGM Hotel Casino Resort in Las Vegas and it is projected by those in the know in the fight business to be a big money maker, potentially giving Pacquiao a purse close to 15 million dollars.
If pushed through as all indications shows, the projected earnings indeed it will make it a ?golden? farewell for the Golden Boy, earning him much more than what he made when he fought Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather..
