"Bam" Rodriguez Stops "Puma" Martínez in 10

PhilBoxing.com

Pound-for-pound star Jesse “Bam” Rodríguez delivered a masterclass in skill, discipline, and finishing power as he knocked out the relentless Fernando “El Puma” Martínez in the 10th round to add the WBA belt to his existing WBC, WBO and RING supe flyweight belts.

In the second world title fight of The Ring IV: Night of Champions at Kingdom Arena, Rodríguez added Martínez’s WBA belt to his WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazine titles, completing a rare four-belt unification. The end came violently and decisively—a crunching left cross that dropped the proud Argentine champion for good. Rodríguez improves to a perfect 23-0 (16 KOs), while Martínez suffers his first defeat, falling to 18-1 (9 KOs).

The fight opened at a blistering pace. Martínez came out aggressively, forcing Rodríguez into quick adjustments, and even appeared to score a knockdown that went uncalled when “Bam’s” glove briefly touched the canvas. Undeterred, Rodríguez relied on his superior footwork, feints, and steady double jab to tame the Argentine’s pressure. As the rounds progressed, the Texan began dictating the ring geography, stabbing Martínez with jabs, slipping counters, and mixing in sharp liver shots that slowly drained the challenger’s momentum.

By the middle rounds, Rodríguez had seized full command. Martínez grew increasingly upright and sluggish from the accumulated punishment, his nose visibly bothering him, while Rodríguez’s punch variety and accuracy multiplied. Combination after combination—often four or more punches in succession—found their mark as Martínez’s output became more desperate and less effective. Though still dangerous with his heavy hooks, the Argentine was forced to clinch repeatedly and struggled to keep pace with Rodríguez’s rhythm and conditioning.

Entering the championship rounds, Rodríguez was in complete control, walking Martínez into jabs, angles, and punishing body work. In the tenth, the crescendo finally arrived. After another furious exchange, Rodríguez uncorked a perfectly timed left cross that sent Martínez crashing to the canvas. Unable to beat the count, “El Puma” saw his undefeated record ended as Rodríguez ascended to the pinnacle of the 115-pound division—unquestioned, and sensational.
