APOL SUICO TO FIGHT KAMEDA IN MEXICO

Filipino flyweight Apol Suico has been tapped at the last minute to fight Japan?s former world champion Koki Kameda in a Top Rank promoted card in Sonora, Mexico on Saturday in a fight that has the makings of a mismatch.
Suico is rated No. 13 by the Games and Amusements Board while Kameda is ranked No.1 by the World Boxing Association and No. 3 by the World Boxing Council.
Games and Amusements Board boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that the GAB had received a request from Suico?s manager Rex ?Wakee? Salud for approval to fight in a ten round bout but indicated no decision has yet been made even though the fight is three days away.
Dr. Cruz said Suico (10-2, 6 KO?s) ?is in the list of (GAB) rated boxers at No. 13.? Kameda who has a record of 17-0 with 11 knockouts and is world-rated has been quoted as saying that while he knows little about Suico ?I am ready to knock him out in the third round.?
Kameda also said he wants to be as big in Japan as Manny Pacquiao is in the Philippines and is eyeing big fights in Las Vegas. Kameda has been training in Mexico and his sparring partners included WBC super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel.
Suico on the other hand suffered a first round TKO at the hands of South Africa?s Moruti ?Baby Face? Mlthlane on September 29 last year. Mlthalane went on to defeat Hussein Hussein in an IBF title eliminator last weekend. Suico also lost by a second round TKO to Danilo Lerio on March 3, 2007.
Kameda was scheduled to fight Marino Montiel (30-12-1, 16 KO?s) but there was no word on why Suico replaced him for Saturday?s fight.
