Ocum is WBC Asian lightweight champ

ROGER “Assassin” Ocum of Kidapawan City stopped undefeated Ronerick “Jackhammer” Ballesteros of Malasiqui in the 1st round last Monday, January 26 to capture the WBC Asian lightweight belt at the Arenas Civic Center in Malasiqui, Pangasinan.
The 23-year-old Ocum first hit Ballesteros with a right overhand in the early minutes that saw Ballesteros slowly going down the canvas.
Ballesteros stood up immediately but Ocum hit him again with left-and-right combos until Ballesteros was again down near the ropes.
Referee Jerrold Tomeldan was forced to stop the fight and help Ballesteros stand up.
It was the first setback by Ballesteros after six wins with five knockouts and one draw while Ocum posted his seventh win with five knockouts and one loss.
“It was a double jab setup then overhand. That's it. The fight is over,” said Ocum, who was trained by international coach Raides “Nonoy” Neri.
Neri was formerly a trainer of 8-time division world champion Manny Pacquiao.
“Our game plan was really right. It was also a lucky punch,” said Ocum.
Meanwhile, Marsolo Pandian [7-1-2, 3KOs] of Manila knocked out Ricky Cajutol [6-4-0, 1KO] of Agusan del Sur.
The fight, billed as “Punitian sa Malasiqui” was promoted by Art Monis of Hardstone Monis Boxing Gym.
