“While others debate governance, the IBA continues to deliver.” IBA CEO & Secretary General Chris Roberts OBE on the organisation’s resilience and global ambition PhilBoxing.com Sat, 30 May 2026 ![]() Lausanne, Switzerland — As discussions surrounding governance and recognition continue across the global boxing landscape, the International Boxing Association (IBA) remains focused on delivering tangible results for athletes, fans, and the sport itself. IBA Secretary General and CEO Chris Roberts OBE reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to innovation, event delivery, and global expansion, highlighting the federation’s continued growth despite ongoing external criticism. “Despite sustained external pressure and criticism, the IBA continues to operate as one of the most capable and active governing bodies in world sport. The truth, however, is often overlooked, or, in some cases, deliberately ignored.” Mr Roberts pointed to the successful delivery of IBA Pro 18 in Mexico as a recent example of the organisation’s ability to operate at the highest level in key international markets. Held in partnership with government stakeholders and a leading professional promotion company, the event showcased IBA’s growing professional platform and its commitment to bridging amateur and professional boxing through the IBA Pro series. “The IBA remains a tour de force organisation. Its strength lies not in external validation, but in delivery. While others debate governance models and positioning, the IBA continues to organise high level tournamens, invest in athletes, and execute events on a global scale. This has been demonstrated not only through its traditional competition framework, but also through the evolution of new platforms such as IBA Pro (Champions Night), a format designed to bridge the gap between amateur and professional boxing, offering athletes sustainable opportunities and global visibility. It represents a forward-thinking approach to the sport’s future, one rooted in action rather than rhetoric.” According to Mr Roberts, the organisation continues to expand its presence through innovative projects such as IBA Pro, IBA Bare-Knuckle, and IBA Nomad, while maintaining its commitment to athletes and the future of the sport. The independence of the International Boxing Association remains one of its greatest strengths, allowing the IBA to act decisively and invest directly into boxing without external limitations. “Despite criticism, the reality is clear: the IBA continues to function, deliver, and grow,” he said. “Our resilience has only made us stronger, more focused, and more determined than ever.” |
