EMINENT NEUROSURGEON STUDIES VALERO?S MEDICAL RECORDS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 06 Jul 2008 Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, underscoring the fact that he wants to do things in ?the appropriate way,? has submitted all the pertinent documents of WBA super featherweight champion Edwin Valero to ?the most eminent neurosurgeon in Nevada? Dr. Michael Seiff to study. In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Arum said that because of the long Fourth of July holiday weekend he expects to receive a report from Dr, Seiff whose specialty is neurosurgery by Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Arum said that he and Japanese businessman-sportsman Akihiko Honda who handles Valero had spent a couple of hours working on the planned lightweight title fight between newly crowned WBC champion and Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and Valero with a November 8 target date. Arum said ?we are proceeding down the road together? and branded the stories about a Pacquiao-Ricky ?Hitman? Hatton fight instead of a showdown with Valero as ?just ludicrous.? He said ?one of the things we did today was to gather all of the papers that Valero had, including the reports of the Texas Commission, the reports of the neurosurgeon in Texas and the neurologists.? Arum revealed they were ?submitting the documents on a confidential basis? to the Medical Advisory Board of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.? NSAC executive director Keith Kizer informed us that the Medical Advisory Board is headed by Dr. Al Capanna as chairman with Dr. Anthony Pollard, Dr. Hardeep Dhindsa and Dr. Todd Chapman as members. At the same time Kizer said they ?had no records (of Valero) as yet.? Arum indicated that while the documents ?look fine? he wanted to get ?an expert opinion before we submit it? to the NSAC because he didn?t want to be rebuffed. He said he would obviously depend on the opinion of the neurosurgeon friend to whom all the medical reports were handed over. Arum disclosed that should the neurosurgeon say everything was fine he would then have him make a presentation to the Medical Advisory Board and Executive Director Keith Kizer. Arum noted that the Texas Commission people who cleared Valero were ?people picked by the Texas Commission and not Valero. They are independent people. They passed it. That?s a good sign.? However, he said he understands that people have different opinions but Arum emphasized ?everything is proceeding the way it should proceed.?
