The Zamboanga City based Arca had five wins, two draws and two losses at the end of the week-long tournament that ended last Friday. He, and ninth placer compatriot GM Daniel Quizon and tenth placer IM Arif Abdul Hafiz of Indonesia had identical scores but Arca had a better quotient. Actually Arca had a chance to win the title but was beaten in the ninth and final round with eventual champion GM Peng Li Min of Switzerland. "It was a difficult match," said the 17 years old Arca, whose campaign is fully supported by the tournament sponsor itself, former Senator Manny Pacquiao. After 9 rounds of play, Peng and GM Platon Galperin were deadlocked at 7.0 points, but Peng's superior tie breaks earned him the trophy and the top prize of $20,000. Meanwhile, NM Keith Adriane Ilar took the trophy and the P100 , 000 top purse,winning the Challenger section with 8 wins and 1 loss. Organized by Pacman Chess Association, the five-day Standard (90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment time control format) backed up by former Senator Manny Pacquiao.
