OLYMPIC BOXING 6: 1932 OLYMPICS AT LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Mon, 08 Dec 2025 ![]() The 1932 Summer Olympics was held from July 30 to August 14, 1932, in Los Angeles, California, United States. The Games coincided with the worldwide Great Depression, with some nations not traveling to Los Angeles as a result the number of countries were depleted to 37 countries compared to the 46 who competed at the 1928 Games in Amsterdam. Medals were awarded in eight weight classes. The competitions were held from August 9 to 13. A total of 85 boxers from 18 nations competed at the Los Angeles Games: Argentina (8) Canada (7) Denmark (2) Finland (2) France (6) Germany (8) Great Britain (3) Greece (1) Hungary (2) Ireland (4) Italy (8) Japan (5) Mexico (6) New Zealand (3) Philippines (4) South Africa (5) Sweden (3) United States (8) The Filipino boxers who competed were John Gray, José Villanueva, José Padilla Jr., and Carlos Padilla Sr. Villanueva won the bronze medal in the bantamweight class after winning the fight for third place against American Joseph Lang.
