Severino and Mendoza win Blitz Asian Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Fri, 05 Dec 2025 FIDE Master Sander Severino and Cheyzer Crystal Mendoza, both of the Philippines, won the blitz competition of the Asian Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities (Men and Women, respectively) held in Tagaytay City on Thursday. Severino finished clear first with 4 points in 5 rounds on account of three wins and two draws. John Franz De Asis tied with compatriot Henry Roger Lopez but took silver thanks to a slightly better tie break. In the women's play, Mendoza won the gold with 3.5 points, followed by Cheryl Angot with 2.5 points for the silver medal. Aiganym Kambarova of Kazakhstan took the bronze after a superior tie break with Jean-Lee Nacita. Arman Subaste, Menandro Redor and Israel Peligro completed Filipino rule in the rapid event winning gold, silver and bronze, respectively. In the standard competition, Bernardo split the point with Alimzhan Ayapov of Kazakhstan to create a five way tie for first place with 3 points each. Joining Bernardo and Ayapov in the group of three pointers that includes Lopez, FM Sirojiddin Zaynidinov and Axadxon Kimsanboyev of Uzbekistan. Kyla Jane Langue drew with Thi Hong Nguyen of Vietnam. The duo tallied 3.5 points each after four rounds to share on top in the distaff side. The event is organized by the Tagaytay Chess Club in cooperation with the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and Philippine Para Chess Association under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE. At stake are Direct FIDE Titles and trophies for champions and medals for the top three in each category, including visually , physically, and hearing impaired divisions.
