Spectacular start to the NBA season
By Gabriel F. Cordero PhilBoxing.com Thu, 30 Oct 2025

It has been an extraordinary start to the 2025–26 NBA season—a week marked not only by spectacular plays but, above all, by remarkable individual performances.
In just the opening stretch, 16 players have scored 40 or more points in a single game.
Players such as Tyrese Maxey of Philadelphia and Austin Reaves and Luka Dončić of the Los Angeles Lakers have topped the 40-point mark in two separate games. Others—including Giannis Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama, Aaron Gordon, Anthony Edwards, Cam Thomas, Jamal Murray, Jaylen Brown, Stephen Curry, Lauri Markkanen, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander—have each reached the milestone once.
Historically, only about 2.4% of players score 40 or more points within the first four games of a season. This year, that number has nearly doubled. The league-wide scoring average has also climbed to 236.6 points per game, representing a 7.6% increase compared to the 2024–25 season.
Moreover, the number of free throws attempted is the highest in three decades, reflecting both the league’s offensive surge and evolving officiating trends.
