MAJOR SHOWS:

OCTOBER 18

NEW YORK, NY, USA: SUPER WELTER: DANNY GARCIA (38-4) W KO 4 DANIEL GONZALEZ (22-5-1). BANTAM: DOMINIQUE CROWDER (19-0) W PTS 10 FERNANDO DIAZ (16-6-1). WELTER: QUINCEY WILLIAMS (6-0,1ND) W TKO 2 CHRISTOPHER RODRIGUEZ (13-2-1). SUPER WELTER: CRISTIAN CANGELOSI (12-0) W PTS 8 VICTORIANO SANTILLAN (13-9-2). LIGHT HEAVY: AVTANDIL KHURTSIDZE (34-2-3) DREW 8 ANDRES MARTINEZ (6-4-1). SUPER LIGHT: MATHEW GONZALEZ (16-1-1) W PTS 8 WILFREDO FLORES (12-6-1). LIGHT: CHRIS COLBERT (18-3) W PTS 8 BLAS CARO (12-9). SUPER MIDDLE: GABRIEL ROSADO (28-17-1) W PTS 8 VAUGHAN ALEXANDER (19-17-2). HEAVY: DAMIAN KNYBA (17-0) W TKO 7 JOEY DAWEJKO (28-14-4).
Garcia vs. Gonzalez
GARCIA ends his career with a bang as knocks out GONZALEZ a perfect left hook. Garcia shook Gonzalez with a right in the first round but Gonzalez was fighting back by the end of the round. Garcia continued to take the fight to Gonzalez in the second and again connected with a powerful right. Garcia kept up the pressure in the third with Gonzalez not really able to make any impact in the action. The ending came in dramatic fashion in the fourth. As Gonzalez came forward Garcia met him with a short left hook that sent Gonzalez down on his back. He tried to rise but then fell down again and that was it. Now 37 the former WBC and WBA light welter and WBC welter champion was in only his sixth fight in the last seven years so retirement seems a sensible decision but who knows whether Garcia will stick to his decision. New Yorker Gonzalez had been inactive in 2023 but had scored two wins in 2024.
Crowder vs. Diaz
CROWDER boxes his way to victory with a unanimous decision over DIAZ. The only tactics Diaz could adopt for this fight was all-out aggression. He was 5” smaller than the 5’10” Crowder with a much shorter reach and Crowder also had quicker hands and smart footwork. Diaz was being picked off at distance and countered on the way in. It was good clever boxing by Crowder but there was little variety in the action or entertainment value as Crowder seemed content to just outbox Diaz. Scores 100-90 twice and 98-92 for Crowder. Quite a contrast to his 87 seconds kayo of Ghanaian Duke Micah in November. Californian Diaz was coming off three wins but over modest level opposition.
Williams vs. Rodriguez
WILLIAMS blasts out RODRIGUEZ in the second round. Williams fired a right that floored Rodriguez in the first. Rodriguez beat the count but Williams launched a fierce attack at the start of the second and with Rodriguez not punching back the fight was stopped. Apart from a No Decision the tall 22-year-old fighter from DC, a former National Golden Gloves champion, has won his other six fights inside the distance taking less than 14 rounds for those six wins. Second straight loss for Floridian Rodriguez.
Cangelosi vs. Santillan
Brooklyn-based Italian CANGELOSI makes it a dozen wins as he takes a unanimous verdict over Argentinian SANTILLAN. No real problems for the tall Italian. He was able to outbox the smaller, mediocre Santillan but did not have the power to get an early finish. Scores 79-73, 78-74 and 77-75. Cangelosi was a New York Golden Gloves champion and competed for Italy at the World Youth Championships.
Khurtsidze vs. Martinez

KHURTSIDZE, 45, gets in some badly needed ring time as he draws over six rounds against MARTINEZ. As with a couple of other fights on this card one of the fighters was conceding lots of height and reach. Georgian Khurtsidze was 6” smaller than Equatorial Guinea’s Martinez but that was something he was used when he had a career. He still fights with the aggression that won him the IBO title and took him to within reach of a WBO title shot but he is older and slower now. He kept rolling forward firing wide hooks putting Martinez under pressure. Martinez found the space for some accurate countering and tied Khurtsidze up inside to smother Khurtsidze’s attacks. Khurtsidze looked to have built a lead but tired over the last two rounds and had to settle for a majority draw. Scores 59-55 for Khurtsidze and 57-57 twice. Khurtsidze was lined up to challenge Billy Joe Saunders for the WBO middleweight title in 2017 but instead went to jail as a member of a New York-based Georgian crime syndicate. He was convicted of racketeering and wire fraud conspiracy and sentenced to ten years' imprisonment, he was released in 2022. He returned to the ring with a win in May 2024 but did not fight again until this bout. Martinez was 1-2 in his last three fights.
Gonzalez vs. Flores
Puerto Rican GONZALEZ takes a close majority verdict over FLORES in a clash of southpaws. Gonzalez, the better schooled boxer, took an early lead with Flores finishing stronger. Gonzalez was docked a point in the seventh for holding and he needed that early lead as Flores almost closed the gap with a strong eighth. Scores 77-74 and 76-75 for Gonzalez and 76-76. Gonzalez had his 15-bout unbeaten record ruined in March when he was knocked out in 57 seconds by Jino Rodrigo. Flores is now 2-5 in his last 7 outings
Colbert vs. Caro
Brooklyn’s COLBERT gets needed win as he floors and decisions SALCIDO. Colbert used his superior skills to outbox Caro in the first but the aggressive Argentinian upped the pressure in the second and third. Colbert established his control again in the fourth and dropped Caro with a body punch in the fifth. From there Colbert controlled the action continuing to land hurtful body punches and eased his way to victory. Scores 80-71, 78-73 and 77-74 for Colbert. After winning his first 16 fights and collecting the WBA interim super featherweight title the wheels fell off for Colbert as he lost 3 of his next 4 fights and was inactive for a year before this fight. Caro is 2-4 in bouts in America
ROSADO wins a unanimous decision over ALEXANDER in a dreary battle of 39-year-olds. Rosado was the quicker and more mobile ad established his jab early and connected with some crisp uppercuts. Alexander did very little and was outworked in every round but in a slow fight without highlights always looked likely to go the distance. Rosado won on scores of 79-73 twice and 80-72. An experienced campaigner Rosado had two world title shots the last was way back in 2013 when he lost on a tenth round stoppage against Peter Qullin for the WBA middleweight title. He was inactive in 2024 but this is his second win this year. Alexzander is the brother of Devon, a former IBF light welter and welterweight and WBC light welterweight title holder. An eleven year prison sentence saw Vaughan out of the ring from 2004 to 2016 and his current form is 1-9-1.
Knyba vs. Dawejko
Polish giant KNYBA floors and stops DAWEJKO. At 5’10” Dawejko is too small to be a heavyweight in the present era and at 5’10” and 250 lbs is carrying too much weight in any era. The 6’7” Pole was able to force Dawejko to the ropes and score with jabs and body punches with Dawejko restricted to wild swipes at distance which posed no danger to Knyba who upped the pressure steadily. Knyba drove Dawejko along the ropes in the seventh landing jabs, rights to the body and uppercuts. Dawejko tried to fight his way of the ropes but was forced back by a series of punches and collapse into the ropes and on to the canvas. One of Dawejko’s corner team promptly climbed to the ring apron signalling Dawejko was finished and the fight was over. In his other two fights this year Knyba beat both 34-4 Andrzej Wawrzyk and 25-0-1 Marcin Siwy. Now 4 losses in his last 5 fights for Dawejko.

OCTOBER 17

LONDON, ENGLAND: MIDDLE: GEORGE LIDDARD (13-0) W TKO 10 KIERON CONWAY (23-4-1). MIDDLE: JIMMY SAINS (11-0) W RTD 4 TROY COLEMAN (14-4-1). SUPER FLY: SHANNON RYAN (10-1) W TEC DEC 4 CHLOE WATSON(8-2). Middle: EMMANUEL BUTTIGIEG (10-0) W PTS 8 CHRISTIAN SCHEMBRI (27-13-1). SUPER MIDDLE: TAYLOR BEVAN (6-0) W TKO 5 LUKAS FERNEZA (6-4). BANTAM: TIAH MAI AYTON (3-0) W TKO 4 LAURA VALDEBENITO (8-7-1).

Liddard vs. Conway
LIDDARD stops an injured CONWAY in the tenth to win the British and Commonwealth titles.Liddard was quickest off the mark in the first firing plenty of jabs and getting through with a good combination. He was controlling the fight with his jabs and any success Conway had came when he was able to get inside. By the fourth Conway was already showing some damage under his right eye and was leaking blood from his nose. He had some success in the fourth but Liddard was still finding gaps with his jab and outworking Conway who had blood trickling down his face. Liddard dominated the middle rounds and although Conway had a good eighth round the cut under his right eye was still bleeding and he had really faded out of the fight. His problems increased as he had injured his right hand during the eighth. This became obvious in the ninth. Liddard connected with a right sending Conway stumbling back to the ropes and down clutching his hands together. He dropped to sit on the lower rope still clutching both hands together desperate not to put any weight on them. He got up but took loads more punishment during the round. A punch in the tenth drove Conway to the ropes and as Liddard unloaded on him the towel came in from Conway’s corner. Good win for Liddard as he collects two prestigious titles and becomes the first fighter to beat Conway inside the distance-something that high quality fighters such as Souleymane Cissokho and Austin Williams could not do. Conway had put together a nice run including victories over Linus Udofia, Ryan Kelly and George Warburton.

Sains vs. Coleman
SAINS beats COLEMAN on a fourth round retirement. Sains dominated the action over the first two rounds with Coleman lacking the skill or the power to compete. Sains softened Coleman up further with more punishment in the third and fourth and Coleman’s team sensibly retired their man. Tenth inside the distance victory for southpaw Sains, 23, who wins the vacant English title. Coleman was coming off a good win in April over unbeaten Bradley Goldsmith in a defence of the BBB of C Midlands Area title.

Ryan vs. Watson
RYAN gets win over WATSON on a unanimous technical decision after a clash of heads leaves Watson with her right eye closed. Ryan quickly took control jabbing well and landing rights. Watson tried to force Ryan onto the back foot in the second and third but Ryan again found gaps for her jabs and connected with right counters. Watson did better at the start of the fourth as she again went on the front foot taking the fight to Ryan. A left jab followed by a clash of heads saw a rapidly growing swelling completely close Watson’s right eye and she was unable to continue. It went to the score cards and the three judges all scored it 40-36 for Ryan. Third win for Ryan since losing a split decision to Emma Dolan in a fight for the vacant British title and a defence by Dolan of her Commonwealth title. Watson had lost her European flyweight title on a split decision against Jasmina Zapotoczna in March.
Buttigieg vs. Schembri
Londoner BUTTIGIEG outpoints Malta’s SCHEMBRI. The visitor proved an awkward customer. He never posed any threat to Buttigieg but his herky-jerky style constantly moving, constantly changing direction and darting in and out never allowed Buttigieg to settle. It was noticeable that Schembri often led with his head and a clash of heads in the second opened a cut on Buttigieg’s forehead but it was never a factor. Buttigieg chased and chased for eight frustrating rounds and had to settle for winning on points with the referee scoring 79-73 for Buttigieg
Bevan vs. Ferneza
In his first eight round fight BEVAN stops FERNEZA. in the fifth round. Bevan had his jab working well from the start. He found plenty of gaps that his superior hand speed allowed him to capitalise on and Ferneza spent the whole eight rounds on the back foot. He did land some useful counters but he lacked the power to stop Bevan’s forward march. It ended in the fifth when a left to the head dropped Ferneza to a knee. He was up at eight but did not want to continue and might have suffered a jaw injury. Bevan, a former Commonwealth Games silver medallist, has won all six of his fights inside the distance.
Ayton vs. Valdebenito
AYTON stops VALDEBENITO in another power show. She was hunting down the Argentinian in the first with Valdebenito already boxing in survival mode. Ayton floored Valdebenito with a right to the head early in the second and shook her again with another right later in the round. Ayton handed out more punishment in the third and ended it in the fourth. A right hook to the body followed by an uppercut and a left and right to the head sent Valdebenito to her knees. She was up at four but the referee completed the eight count then waived the fight over. Ayton, 19, is being touted as a future superstar. She has real power and was European kickboxing and World Muay Thai champion before turning to boxing and she won all of her 21 contests before turning professional. Valdebenito had lost on points over eight rounds to Chloe Watson in 2023.

LAS HERAS, ARGENTINA: JUAN CARRASCO (21—2) W TKO 5 FERNANDO SANCHEZ (9-2,1ND).
CARRASCO much too good for overmatched Bolivian SANCHEZ. In the first round Sanchez went down on his knees under pressure from Carrasco. Carrasco continued to score heavily over the next three rounds but a clash of heads saw him suffer a bad cut on his left eyelid in the fourth. He passed a doctor’s examination and his corner, led by former WBO featherweight champion Pablo Chacon, stemmed the bleeding. Carrasco floored Sanchez early in the fifth and although Sanchez beat the count his corner threw in the towel. Carrasco has won 15 of his last 16 fights with the loss coming in October when he was stopped in the twelfth round by Zaur Abdullaev. Eight of Sanchez’s nine victims had never won a fight.

CATAMARCA, ARGENTINA: LIGHT HEAVY: PABLO CORZO (24-1) W KO 1 SANTIAGO CORTESIA (7-2-1). MIDDLE: GABRIEL CORZO (22-1) W RTD 4 JOSE MARCANO (17-18).
Corzo vs. Cortesia
“Pacman” CORZO, 25, finishes Venezuelan CORTESIA in the opening round. A body punch dropped Cortesia and he was unable to beat the count. Local fighter Corzo makes it 21 inside the distance victories. He won his first 23 fights before losing on points against Pavel Silyagin in Russia in July. None of Cortesia’s victims had won a fight.
Corzo vs. Marcano
Older brother Gabriel “El Terrible” CORZO made it a family double as he beat Venezuelan Marcano on a fourth round retirement. A strong body attack weakened Marcano and he retired at the end of the fourth round. Only the fourth win by KO/TKO for Corzo who lost on points against Josh Kelly in 2023. Marcano now has 13 losses inside the distance and the fighters he has beaten have only managed one win between them.

OCTOBER 18

LONG BEACH, CA, USA: ANDRES CORTES (24-0) W TKO 4 DERLYN HERNANDEZ (13-4-5). SUPER LIGHT: ELVIS RODRIGUEZ (18-2-1) W TKO 2 ALEJANDRO FRIAS (19-12-2). SUPER FEATHER: OTAR ERANOSYAN (16-0) W KO 4 EMMANUEL DOMINGUEZ (27-12-2). FEATHER: ALBERT GONZALEZ(15-0) W RTD 4 LEONARDO BAEZ (21-7). SUPER MIDDLE: SAMUEL ARNOLD (14-0) W TKO 10 JUAN BARAJAS (11-2-2).
Cortes vs. Hernandez
WBO No 6 CORTES stops HERNANDEZ in the fourth. The end came as Cortes nailed Hernandez with an overhand left and then had Hernandez reeling under an array of punches before the referee stopped the fight . Cortes scored two wins over Teo Lopez in the amateurs and also beat Xavier Martinez, Bryan Chevallier and Abrahan Nova now he has to translate that into success as a professional
Rodriguez vs. Frias
Dominican southpaw RODRIGUEZ stops FRIAS in the second round. Rodriguez dominated the first and ended the fight in the second. A short right hook put Frias down and the fight was stopped. That makes it 14 wins by KO/TKO for Rodriguez., He lost a majority decision to unbeaten Lindolfo Delgado in April and he is No 8 with the IBF with positions 1 and 2 vacant and Lindolfo 3. Frias had won 5 of his last 6 fights.
Eranosyan vs. Dominguez
ERANOSYAN flattens DOMINGUEZ in the fourth round. As they traded punches in the fourth they both launched rights. Eranosyan’s arrived first and detonated on Dominguez jaw leaving him on the canvas slumped against the ropes with no count needed. The Georgian had scored a good win over Roger Gutierrez in August 23 but was then inactive until returning with a victory in August this year. He wins the Junior NABF super featherweight belt. Just one win in his last five fights for Mexican Dominguez.
Gonzalez vs. Baez
GONZALEZ floors and stops BAEZ . This was four rounds of brutal war. There was no trace of a defence from either boxer. An incredibly brave Baez just kept walking forward soaking up Gonzalez punches but never taking a backward step and never stopping from throwing his own punches. Gonzalez was connecting with every punch he threw but could not stop Baez advancing. Gonzalez managed to put Baez down with a series of punches in the third but Baez just got up and was driving Gonzalez back again. All of the punishment finally caught up with Baez in the fourth . He was swinging punches and leaving himself wide open for hard counters from Gonzalez and his corner decided he was too brave for his own good and retired him. Seventh inside the distance win for Gonzalez. Baez lost on points against Rey Vargas in November 2021 and was then inactive before returning last December in a losing effort against Luis Nunez.
Arnold vs. Barajas
Good win for ARNOLD as he picks up his first title with a stoppage over BARAJAS in the tenth round. This was for the vacant NABA title and Arnold, 22, was moving up ten rounds for the first time. Barajas is 0-2-2 in his last 4 fights.

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX, USA: LIGHT FLY: LOURDES JUAREZ (39-4,1ND) W PTS 10 YESICA PLATA (30-3). SUPER LIGHT: OMAR JUAREZ (20-2) W PTS 10 OMAR ROSARIO (14-3). MIDDLE: DESLEY ROBINSON (11-3) W TKO 2 LOGAN HOLLER (11-4-1).
Juarez vs. Plata
JUAREZ only just holds on to her WBC title as she win a majority verdict against fellow-Mexican PLATA. This was largely a tactical battle fought between two experienced top level fighters. Juarez adopted her customary switching of stances and quick movement. This was Plata’s first fight for 22 months but she showed no rust as she surged forward taking the fight to Juarez trying to wear down her older and smaller opponent. Plata looked to have edged those first two rounds but clever boxing by Juarez in the third and fourth quickly evened things up and she looked to have outscored Plata in the fifth. Plata then boxed more from then with Juarez now the one looking to work inside. Plata was getting the better of the exchanges and had a small lead but it was still anyone’s fight as the rounds continued to be close. It was going to the wire as Juarez took a close ninth and Plata an equally tight tenth. The judges scored it 96-94 twice for Juarez and 95-95. In these days when female champions can collect two or more titles in less than 15 fights it seems incredible that Juarez did not fight for a world title until she had been a professional for seven years and was in her 34th fight. She may now aim to unify the light flyweight titles. Plata had won both the WBA and WBC titles previously but relinquished both at the end of 2023. A pity as she had beaten Yesica Yolanda Bopp, Kim Claverl and Sarah Bormann before her almost two years of inactivity.
Juarez vs. Rosaro
Texan JUAREZ proves too strong and aggressive for ROSARIO and makes it six wins in a row. Juarez was attacking Rosario’s body in the first and it was his round. Rosario made the second and third close but Juarez took over from the fourth. There was plenty of give and take action over the middle rounds but Juarez’s aggression and body punching won him those rounds. His pressure was proving too much for Rosario and Rosario was deducted a point for holding in the eighth. Despite his exhaustion Rosario managed a strong last round and edged it but ruined that by losing another point for holding. Juarez wins on scores of 99-89 twice and 97-91. Both of the losses Juarez has suffered have been majority decisions. Rosario won the Puerto Rican super lightweight title with a technical decision over 18-2 John Bauza-Fernandez in June.
Robinson vs. Holler
Australian ROBINSON halts challenger HOLLER in two rounds in defence of her IBF and WBO titles. Robinson boxed behind her jab just doing enough to take the opening round. She cut loose in the second sending Holler flying into the ropes with a left hook. The ropes held Holler up and she was given a count. After the count Robinson battered Holler until the referee stopped the fight. Robinson, 37, was making the second defence of the IBF belt and first of the WBO. After being unbeaten in her first 9 fights Holler has struggled against better opposition.

CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO: SUPER FEATHER: MAURICIO LARA (29-3-2) W TKO 1 MIGUEL ROMAN (71-17,1 ND).
Former WBA featherweight champion LARA drops and stops veteran ROMAN in the first round. No study time her as they both let their hands go early. As they traded punches Lara landed a right that dropped Roman. Roman made it to his feet but Lara came forward and landed a left that sent Roman staggering to the ropes. Lara then unleashed a bunch of solid heads shots that had Roman reeling and the referee jumped in and stopped the fight with 54 seconds remaining in the round. Lara will now campaign for a title shot at super featherweight. Roman, 39, had said he would retire if he lost this fight and let’s hope he does after a 22 year career in which he has had three world title shots and ducked no one.

HAMBURG, GERMANY: MINIMUM: SARAH BORMANN (21-1) W PTS 10 YUKO KUROKI (25-9-2). HEAVY: PETAR MILAS (19-1) W TKO 5 RYDELL BOOKER (27-11-1). HEAVY: LUIS MARIN (17-11-1) W KO 10 ALBON PERVIZAJ (19-2).
Bormann vs. Kuroki
WBO champion BORMANN gets a controversial split decision over WBA champion KUROKI to unify the two titles. Although Bormann had the longer reach she fought an aggressive fight piling forward putting southpaw Kuroki under pressure. Kuroki boxed in an assured manner spearing Bormann with jabs and showing good defensive skills and seemed to have the edge over the first three rounds. Bormann’s constant attacks saw her getting the better of the trading over the fourth and fifth and she also roughed Kuroki inside hustling Kuroki out of her stride. Although the pace was fast neither fighter was doing a lot of clean work and it was a hard fight to score. Kuroki found her rhythm again from the sixth and was moving and jabbing and countering Bormann’s wild rushes. As Bormann barrelled forward in the ninth there was a clash of heads that sliced open a vertical cut between Bormann’s eyes that had blood flowing down her face. Bormann threw everything at Kuroki in the tenth and took the round but it did not seem enough to cancel out Kuroki’s earlier work. The judges saw it 97-93 and 96-95 for Bormann and 97-93 for Kuroki preferring Bormann’s aggression over Kuroki’s skill.
Bormann has a long and successful time as an amateur behind her and is a former undefeated IBO title holder. Kuroki has held the WBA and WBO Atom titles and the WBC minimumweight belt. A professional for 17 years she is 11-5 in worlds title fights.
Milas vs. Booker
Croatian MILAS beats veteran BOOKER in five rounds. Milas found Booker an easy target for his jabs early switching guards and scoring at distance. Booker was not quick enough to really assert any pressure on Milas. When he first turned professional in 2001 Booker was 200 lbs-for this fight he was 269 ½ lbs so he is not quick. Milas bombarded Booker with punches over the first three rounds and then sent Booker down with a body punch in the fourth. After two more knockdowns in the fifth the fight was stopped. Fifteenth inside the distance win for Milas. He was stopped in seven rounds by Tony Yoka in 2019 but this is just his fourth fight in the last four years. Only the third loss by KO/TKO for Booker but he is 44 and has won only one of his last eleven fights.
Marin vs. Pervizaj
House fighter PERVIZAJ suffers a shock stoppage loss against mediocre Venezuelan MARIN resulting in some disgraceful antics as there were punches being exchanged inside and outside the ring as Pervizaj supporters attacked Marion’s team. As expected Pervizaj took control in the first using his longer reach to score at distance. There were frantic exchanges in the second with both fighters throwing and landing lots of leather. Pervizaj seemed to get the worst of the exchanges and already seemed to have punched himself out. Marin continued to score heavily in the third and fourth with Pervizaj firing back but looking shaky. Pervizaj was in trouble in the fifth but bounced back with a good sixth. He had the better skills but was not using them and was shaken again in the eighth. The ninth saw Pervizaj landing the better shots but a combination in the tenth sent Pervizaj down. He struggled to his feet and stumbled back to the ropes and was obviously finished. The referee ignored the state Pervizaj was in and grabbed Pervizaj’s gloves, cleaned them and let the fight continue. A series of head shots from Garcia dropped Pervizaj again and belatedly the referee waived the fight over. Pervizaj was down and being treated for quite a while even as the fighting went on around him. Martin, 39, was a known quantity. Over the years he had fought in Germany 7 times winning just once and in his last fight in August had drawn in Ecuador with a fighter with a 0-1-1 record. Curiously between the fight in Ecuador and this fight he had somehow shed 22 lbs. Huge disaster for Pervizaj to lose to an opponent who had been hand-picked to get him an easy win

VILLA MARIA, ARGENTINA: FLY: TOBIAS REYES (18-1-1) W PTS 10 PEDRO ALARCON (13-1-1). SUPER LIGHT: ALAN CRENZ (16-2) W TKO 1 PABLO VILLAFANE (7-9-1). LIGHT: MARIA FERREYRA (12-1-1) W PTS 10 JOANA CHAVARRIA (7-7-1).
Reyes vs. Alarcon
The all-out aggression of REYES proves too much for ALARCON and Reyes retains the WBO Latino title. Although giving away 4” in height and plenty of reach Reyes was able to force Alarcon to the ropes and score to head and body. Alarcon had won his last seven fights by KO/TKO but just could not keep Reyes off and struggled to win a round. Scores 99-91 twice and 98-92. Reyes lost a very tight majority decision in an IBF eliminator in December against Felix Alvarado but is No 1 with the WBO so looking to get a shot at Anthony Olascuaga. Colombian southpaw Alarcon had been very carefully protected and Reyes was a big leap in opposition quality.
Crenz vs. Villafane
CRENZ gets another quick win as he destroys fellow-Argentinian VILLAFANE in the first round. Two knockdowns were enough for the referee to decide to come in to save Villafane. Now Fifteen wins by KO/TKO for Crenz who lost to Carlosa Utria in an early round of the WBC Gran Prix in Riyadh. Third loss by KO/TKO for Villafane
Ferreyra vs. Chavarria
FERREYRA returns to her home base with a win as she takes the unanimous decision over Mexican CHAVARRIA. Ferreyra used her longer reach and superior skills to off-set Chavarria’s relentless pressure. Ferreyra, the bigger and stronger fighter, won on scores of 97-93 on the three cards. In her last fight in June Ferreyra lost the unanimous decision against Beatriz Ferreira in a challenge for the IBF title. Chavarria, a featherweight, was jumping up two division for this fight.

KORNEUBURG. AUSTRIA: WELTER: DIELLI VRANOCI (13-1) W PTS 10 AHMET SIMSEK (8-1). SUPER MIDDLE: BERNARDIN JAKAJ (19-1) W PTS 8 MICHEL MARCANO (39-15-).
Vranoci vs. Simsek
Austrian-based Kosovan VRANOCI wins the vacant Austrian title as he beats local fighter SIMSEK on a unanimous decision. Scores 98-92 twice and 100-90. Fourth win in a row for Vranoci who dedicated the victory to his late father.
Jakaj vs. Marcano
Kosavan-born Austrian JAKAL floors and outpoints Venezuelan Marcano. Jakaj usually fights at middleweight but moved up to super middle for this one and was giving away 5 lbs. He used his longer reach to boss this fight but was disappointed not to register an inside the distance win as 11 of Marcano’s losses had come by KO/TKO. Jakal had won his first 16 fights but then lost a closed decision against unbeaten Angolan-born Swede Constantino Nanga

LOUVAIN LA NEUVE, BELGIUM: SUPER LIGHT: ANTOINE VANACKERE (26-1) W PTS 10 WALID OUIZZA (20-4). HEAVY: RYAD MERHY (35-3) W TKO 2 GORA NIANG (7-2-2).
Vanackere vs. Ouizza
Belgian southpaw VANACKERE extends his winning streak to 18 as he takes a unanimous decision over Frenchman OUIZZA to win the vacant IBF Inter-Continental title. Scores 98-92 twice and 99-91. Vanackere has no world rating and is No 7 with the EBU. You would think with 18 wins in a row he might be rated higher but you might also think that with 18 wins in a row his team might actually take a chance by matching against better opposition. Ouizza was stopped in one round by Dalton Smith for the vacant European title in January
Merhy vs. Niang
MERHY wins the vacant WBC African title as he stops overmatched NIANG in the second round. Merhy came close to ending it in the first but Niang made it to the bell. Merhy finished his work for the night with a ferocious attack in the second which forced the referee to stop the fight. Merhy, 32, has lost big fights at crucial times against Arsen Goulamirian, Kevin Lerena and Jared Anderson . He is NO 2 in the WBC Bridgerweight ratings so another title shot is still a possibility as this division still struggles for credibility. Senegal’s Niang no test.

OSTRZESZOW, POLAND: LIGHT HEAVY: LIGHT HEAVY: ROBERT PARZECZEWSKI (35-2) W PTS 10 OLEKSANDR ANTONOV (8-4-1).
Comparing the records of PARZECZEWSKI and ANTONOV made this look an easy night for the Pole and although he won by a wide margin on the cards the home fighter had to work hard for his win. Parzeczewski boxed well stringing together some classy combinations and finding the target with left hooks to the body. Antonov didn’t crumble and was never in serious trouble as he maintained his boast of never being stopped inside the distance. Parzeczewski won on scores of 100-90 twice and 99-91. His only loss was back in 2020 when he was stopped in two rounds by then 21-1-1 Uzbek Sherzod Khusanov. Now based in Thailand Antonov had won a couple of low level fights this year.
