Canelo Wins the 'Xicoténcatl' Belt and is Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion Once Again
By Gabriel F. Cordero PhilBoxing.com Sun, 04 May 2025

The undisputed super middleweight championship is once again held by Mexican superstar Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs), who regained his IBF title against previously undefeated William “El Indomable” Scull (23-1, 9 KOs) by a twelve-round unanimous decision early Sunday morning at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Canelo pressured the fight, while Scull landed occasional counterpunches. In the end, Canelo won 115-113, 116-112, and 119-109.
The winner was awarded the 2025 Tlaxcala Xicoténcatl Championship Belt, a masterpiece of design and symbolism deeply inspired by Tlaxcala's rich cultural heritage, honoring the spirit of a legendary warrior and the region's vibrant artistic traditions.
Canelo was far superior to William Scull throughout the fight, who displayed strong physical conditioning that allowed him to defend himself and withstand the Mexican's blows.
With this latest victory, Canelo increases his fortune and maintains a record of 63-2 with 39 wins by knockout.
Unofficially, it was learned that the Mexican superstar could have earned between $80 and $100 million, while Scull earned no more than $8 million.
