Alexander Povetkin Banned for Four Years, 12 Fight Results Nullified
PhilBoxing.com Mon, 27 Jan 2025

Russian heavyweight Alexander Povetkin has been banned for four years and had the results of 12 fights annulled after multiple doping violations, according to a statement by the International Testing Agency (ITA).
Doping Violations Lead to Harsh Sanctions
The ITA’s decision is based on evidence provided by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which obtained data from the Moscow laboratory. The findings revealed that Povetkin tested positive for ostarine in 2014.
As a result, the former world title challenger has been suspended until October 20, 2028. Furthermore, all of his fight results from September 28, 2014, to his temporary suspension on September 9, 2024, have been officially nullified.
Key Fights Affected by the Ban
During this period, Povetkin fought 12 times, securing wins over Carlos Takam, Hughie Fury, David Price, and Dillian Whyte, while suffering defeats to Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. However, with the annulment of these results, Povetkin’s professional record will now reflect these fights as void.
A History of Doping Offenses
This is not Povetkin’s first run-in with doping authorities. He has previously been sanctioned twice for violating anti-doping regulations:
• May 2016: Tested positive for meldonium
• December 2016: Tested positive for ostarine
With this latest ruling, Povetkin’s career and legacy take a significant hit, as his accomplishments over the past decade are effectively erased.
This development comes as the boxing world continues its efforts to combat doping and maintain the sport’s integrity.
