Bernardino to hold chess simul in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Thu, 15 Aug 2024 Manila---National Master and United States Chess Master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. will play simultaneous chess exhibition matches at the 3rd floor Executive Building in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan on August 17. Sportsman Ernesto Salcedo III said Bernardino, an online Arena Grandmaster, will hold a simul with select students and chess enthusiasts of Pozorrubio as part of the chess activities of Pozorrubio, a 1st class municipality in the province of Pangasinan. “We’re excited. The students and residents of Pozorrubio are eager to meet and even play NM Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., in simultaneous chess exhibition matches,” said Salcedo, who is also the Vice-Mayor of Pozorrubio. “NM Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. is the perfect choice to do the rare simultaneous chess exhibitions. He is a native of Binalonan, Pangasinan," Vice-Mayor Salcedo said. It shall be recalled that Bernardino is fresh from winning the 2nd edition of the IIEE-Bayanihan-Greenfield District (IBGD) Blitz Chess Tournament dubbed as Single Knockout Armageddon Tournament (SIKAT) that was held on August 9 at the Pavilion Mall, Greenfield District, Mandaluyong City. Simultaneous games was also done by Bernardino with a perfect 8-0 record. "Thank you Vice Mayor Ernesto Salcedo III for inviting me to the one-day Pozorrubio Invitational chess tournament on Saturday. A jointly organized by the Sangguniang Bayan and Sangguniang Kabataan," said the 47-year-old Bernardino, who is set to compete in the Laos International Chess Open 2024 to be held on September 1 to 7 at the Vientiane Chess Centre, Vientiane, Laos. Aside from the simul, there will also be a one-day invitational chess tournament on Saturday jointly organized by the Sangguniang Bayan and Sangguniang Kabataan, in line with its grassroots chess development program. The champion here will run away with the lion’s share of P7,000. The second to fifth placers will receive P5,000, P3,000, P2,000, and P1,500, respectively. The sixth to tenth will receive P500 each while the 11th to 20th will claim P300 apiece. The top five Pozorrubio will have a special prize of P2,000, P1,500, P1,000, P800, and P500 while the top five kiddies will earn P2,000, P1,500, P1,000, P500 and P500, in order. Sixth to 10th placers will receive P300 each. Among the top contenders from Pangasinan are Woman Fide Master Samantha Glo Revita of Rosales, Atty. Reddy Ceralde Balarbar of San Fabian, Atty. Rodolfo "Rudy" Rivera of Bolinao, Romy Fagon , Roadster and Regyne Palaming of Urdaneta City, Judylito Ulanday of Saul, Precious Eve Ferrer of Lingayen, Ormilito Ordizo of Alaminos and Fidel Labuanan of Binalonan.
