Indiana Pacers Beat GS Warriors, Fortify Hold of Sixth Spot in the East By Teodoro Medina Reynoso PhilBoxing.com Sat, 23 Mar 2024 With merely a dozen games left before the regular season ends, every game matters and every win counts for automatic spots in the playoffs. The Indiana Pacers strengthen their hold of the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 123-111 road win over the Golden State Warriors as rivals, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers dropped their games against Western Conference adversaries today. The Heat got bludgeoned at home by the New Orleans Pelicans, 111-88 while the Sixers were outplayed on the road by the Los Angeles Lakers, 101-94. The win allowed the Pacers to have a two game lead with a record of 40-31 over their sixth place rivals, the Sixers and the Heat both toting a record of 38-32. The Pacers' victory over the Warriors was bannered by guard Tyrese Haliburton, do-it- all big man Paskal Siakam and Andrew Nembrand who scored 26, 25 and 17 points respectively. Siakam also pulled down 16 rebounds and joined forces with regular center Mel Turner who turned in 14 points and 10 boards, forced the Warriors to play it honest on both sides of the court. Steph Curry topped the Warriors scoring with 25 and he was backed up by Splash bro, Klay Thompson with 17. But apart from the two, the other Warriors could only come up with 13 (Brandin Podziemski), 12 (Chris Paul) and a pair of 11s by Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga. Curry was also the top rebounder with 15. The game was evenly played in the first half which ended 67-66 in the Warriors favor. But the Pacers outscored the Warriors 36-21 in the third quarter and then matched whatever Golden State could muster in the last quarter to preserve the W. It's difficult what to make out of Miami's huge home loss to the Pelicans. The game was close with the halftime going slightly to the Pels, 47-41 but the Heat simply allowed themselves to also be outplayed in the succeeding two quarters setting the tone for the breakaway loss The author Teodoro Medina Reynoso is a veteran boxing radio talk show host living in the Philippines.
