PACQUIAO TO HOLD LOS ANGELES PUBLIC WORKOUT By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Fri, 13 Jun 2008 Los Angeles, CA:- Bob Arum?s Top Rank Promotions announced that WBC Super featherweight champion, Manny Pacquiao will hold an open public work out in Los Angeles on Saturday June 14, 2008. The event will start at 12:00 noon and it will be held at the Little Philippines Lake Street Park located at 227 N. Lake Street, Los Angeles ( near Alvarado and Temple Sts). It will be free of charge. According to Bill Caplan of the Top Rank Promotions, a full size ring will be set up at the park so Pacquiao and Freddie Roach will have a stage to do the mitts and for Pacquiao to do his shadow boxing and jump rope routines. The event will be the last public open work out for the Filipino boxing idol. Pacquiao will go up to 135 lbs in weight to challenge David Diaz of Chicago for his WBC Lightweight Title. The Pacquiao-Diaz fight will be held at the Events Center of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino at the Strip in Las Vegas on Saturday June 28, 2008 and it will be shown live on HBO PPV. Pacquiao who has been in Los Angeles since May 12th has been training earnestly at the Wildcard Gym of Freddie Roach in Hollywood. The training has been closed to the public to allow Pacquiao a quiet place to train and concentrate on the battle plan Roach has formulated for him. The last open public work out on June 14th will give the Los Angeles fans and supporters a last glimpse of their idol before the big day two weeks later. Filipinos living in and around Los Angeles are encouraged to grace the event. Pacquiao need their support because Lake Street Park is not exactly dominated by Filipinos. There is also a large Latino population in and around it. It would be nice if Filipinos for once will outnumber the Latinos and win the usual spontaneous ?cheering competition? that occurs in such events.
