Aldea fights Suzuki in a rematch in Japan By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Thu, 04 Jan 2024 ![]() Roldan Aldea. SOUTHPAW Roldan “The Cobra” Aldea of Kabankalan City and Masahiro Suzuki of Japan will have their rematch on January 20 at the Karakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Their first vacant title-fight for the Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) lightweight was held last October 7, 2023 and it ended in a majority draw at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City. Filipino judge Gil Co scored it 116-112 in favor of Aldea but compatriot judge Silvestre Abainza and Japanese Nobuto Ikehara both saw it 114-114. “Now it's good because my training for our rematch has been long, I've learned from our previous match, we're just different, we've changed our style,” said Aldea. Aldea said that they are not taken for granted. “We’re not just chill ‘coz the fight is in Japan,” said Aldea. He is sparring with undefeated super lightweight Ali “The Carnage" Cañega. “Right now I’m not losing weight, I'm only able to maintain 145 pounds,” said Aldea. Aldea is going to Japan with his manager Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde’s son Garren and two trainers Jun Tomagan and Randy Villamor. Aldea (18-9-2, 10KOs) also defended his Philippine lightweight title for the 5th time against Leonard Doronio of Mandaluyong City by a unanimous decision last April 22, 2023 at the Elorde Sports Complex. Suzuki (9-1-1, 6KOs), on the other hand, has recently knocked out former WBO World bantamweight champion Panya Uthok of Thailand last April 18, 2023 at Korakuen Hall. The Aldea-Suzuki fight is promoted by Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Lito delos Reyes. |
