Friendly Match: Visayas finest vs Mindanao, 20 boards in the 1st Governor Henry S. Oaminal 7-in-1 Chess Festival slated on Nov. 10-12 at the Ozamis City Auditorium

MANILA---In the "1st Governor Henry S. Oaminal 7-in-1 Chess Festival" set on Nov. 10-12, marking their 1st keenly-awaited encounter, the Visayas finest woodpushers will have the chance to showcase their skills and talents in the 64 square board against Mindanao chess athlete, 20 boards, friendly match.

"This is the first time that the Visayas finest woodpushers will be pitted against the Mindanao brightest chess athletes," said National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Director and Asenso Misamis Occidental Chess Association (AMOFCA) president engr. Rey Cris Urbiztondo, being held as part of the three-day chess festival hosted by Gov. Oaminal, as part of the 94th Provincial Anniversary celebrations.

The Visayas teams, composed of IM Rico Mascarinas, IM Joel Pimentel, IM Kim Steven Yap, FM Mario Mangubat, NM Cyril Ortega, NM Rommel Ganzon, NM Melben Roque, NM Rogelio Enriquez, NM Rolzon Roullo, Rafael Perez, Atty. Jason Bandal, Ronald Ganzon, Michael Joseph Pagaran, Bonn Rainauld Tibod, Chris Tubalado, Jimmy Ty, Allan Pason, Richard Natividad and Diego Caparino, Daniel Bailosis and Remigio Galenzoga.

Making up for Mindanao are IM Richilieu Salcedo III, FM Victor Lluch, FM Austin Jacob Literatus, FM Ellan Asuela, NM Henry Roger Lopez, NM Joey Florendo, NM Atty Bob Jones Liwagon, NM Raymond Salcedo, Prof. Rey Reyes, Lennon Hart Salgados, Jason Salubre, Johnnel Balquin, Johnny Carzano and Tyrone Alaan.
Also playing are Dr. Wil Maghanoy, Kag. Jaime Frias, Ben Wabe, Atty. Bobby Urquia and AGM Rey Cris Urbiztondo. Team result will be based on the total scores of all the players.

Filipino crazy chess fans can expect bloody fight and a tough war between Northern Mindanao versus The Rest of Mindanao, being held as part of the three-day chess festival hosted by Gov. Oaminal and organized by National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Director and Asenso Misamis Occidental Chess Association (AMOFCA) president Rey Cris Urbiztondo as part of the 94th Provincial Anniversary celebrations.

Meantime, a unique friendly match will pit between Northern Mindanao versus The Rest of Mindanao in 23 Boards.

This is a follow up with the win of Northern Mindanao (Region 10) versus Region 9 last July match also in Ozamiz. A replica of USSR vs The Rest of The World in the 1970’s.

Northern Mindanao bannered by Engr. Rey Urbiztondo, Engr. Paul Omongos, Businessman Cleto Vasquez, Businessman Benoni Wabe, Atty. Condrado Mahinay, Fr. Vic Arellano, COA (Retired) Oliver Damonsong, Businessman Renee Goopio and Journalist Lynde Salgados for the Executive Squad.

IM Richelieu Salcedo III, FM Ellan Asuela, FM Victor Lluch, AFM Lyndon Lumancas, Lennon Hart Salgados, Johnnel Balquin, Johnny Carzano, Nazario Ubanan, Jeriel Manlimbana and Alfred Rapanot for the Open line-up while NM Mardonio Fuentes, Mario Arroyo and Clement Valledor for the Senior line-up.

Joining them are WNM Lila Alyssa Seriña, LJ Getubig and Lyn Getubig for the Ladies line-up, NM Keith Adriane Ilar, Cassey Miguel Tabamo for the Juniors line-up and Nicole Paquinol and Miykael Lapad for the Kiddies players.

Meanwhile, Engr Allan Diez, Atty. Melzar Galicia, NM James Infiesto, Atty. Jong Guevarra, Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe, NM Zulfikar Sali, AGM Rey Reyes and Rod Villa, Jr.will spearheaded by Rest of Mindanao Executive Chess Players.

Other members are NM Henry Roger Lopez, NM Joey Albert Florendo, NM Paulo James Florendo, Patrick Erle Florendo, FM Austin Jacob Literatus, NM Raymond Salcedo, Jezreel Lopez, Irwin Aton, Abdulkalip Daggung and Akin Adil for the Open, Reiner Suson, Atty Quieino Sagario and Amer Tandong for the Seniors, Lady player Cyreine Borce, NM JC Borve and AGM Fletch Archer Arado fo the Junior, Khana Ventolero and Aaron Aton for the Kiddies bets. -Marlon Bernardino-
