WORLD 10-BALL WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP WILL PAY $45,000 TO WINNER

PhilBoxing.com

The winner of this year’s WPA Predator World 10-Ball Women’s Championship will receive $45,000, a 50% increase from 2022 and the biggest individual prize in women’s pool.

Klagenfurt, Austria will once again host the Championship, won last year by Chou Chieh-Yu. The tournament will take place October 18-22 at Sportpark Klagenfurt, the home of the Jasmin Ouschan Billiard Academy.

Ouschan won the World 10-Ball title in 2010 and will have local support on her side as she aims to lift the trophy for a second time. Last year’s event was the first staging of the World 10-Ball Women’s Championship since 2013, when Rubilen Amit had won her second title in Manila.

The 2023 World Championship will feature 48 invited players, who will begin in a race-to-7 double elimination bracket. Play switches to single elimination from the last 16. As well as paying out an increased winner’s prize of $45,000, up from €30,000 in 2022, the tournament prize fund will now be paid in US dollars, in line with major international events.

A spectacular week of billiards in Austria will also see the Predator WPA World 8-Ball Men’s Championship and Predator WPA World 10-Ball Junior’s Championship held in Klagenfurt.

Cyrille Fournier, Chief Operating Officer of Predator Group, said: “We are committed to supporting and growing our diverse sport and rewarding its champions at every level. Awarding the World Women’s 10-Ball champion a prize of $45,000 is part of our promise to develop our events alongside the WPA and our event partners.

“Staging five World Championships is one week is a big challenge but it allows us to host the world’s best men, women and junior players together in a very exciting week for the sport. Klagenfurt was a great host for the 2022 Predator WPA World 10-Ball Women’s Championship so it was an easy decision to return with an even bigger schedule this year.

“The city of Klagenfurt and region of Carinthia are great supporters of these events and we are thankful to their governments, the local people and our partners Richwert Promotions, who support these events so well. Klagenfurt is rightly very proud of the achievements of Jasmin and Albin Ouschan. We know how special and important it would be for Jasmin to win a World title in her home city. However, as we saw in 2022, Women’s pool is incredibly strong and there will be many players who believe they can win the title.”

Also taking place in Klagenfurt will be the Predator WPA World 8-Ball Men’s Championship (17-22 October) and the Predator WPA World 10-Ball Junior Championships (19-22 October), which has divisions for Girls, Boys Under-19s and Boys Under-17s.

The 96-player World 8-Ball Men’s Championship has also seen an increase to the winner’s prize. The 2023 champion will take home $75,000, increased from the $60,000 prize paid in 2022.

All five World Championship events will be broadcast in full across Predator Pro Billiard Series broadcast platforms. The World Billiard TV YouTube channel and Billiard TV will host table 1 matches with multi-camera coverage and English commentary free to watch throughout the events. Kozoom.com will be the destination to watch every single match live.
