8th Edition Kamatyas FIDE Rated Invitational Rapid Chess Tournament is set to kick off today PhilBoxing.com Sat, 13 May 2023 MANILA---The 8th Edition Kamatyas FIDE Rated Invitational Rapid Chess Tournament dubbed as “Center Pawns” is set to kick off today, Saturday, May 13, 2023 at SM Southmall, Mall extension Lower Ground Level in Las Piñas City. The list of players has been completed and confirmed as the slots are limited. These series of tournaments are organized by no other than International Master Roderick Nava – arguably the most famous Pinoy chess blogger in the Philippines today in partnership with Mr. David Almirol, patron and co founder of Kamatyas Chess Club. The list of player include prominent names such as International Master Michael Concio Jr., Woman International Master Kylen Joy Mordido, FIDE Master Roel Abelgas, National Master Mark Jay Bacojo, Woman National Master Jerlyn Mae San Diego and country's newest FIDE Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca of Dasmariñas Chess Academy. "I am supercharged and well-motivated as I am coming from a very sweet victory from my recent tournament where I got my full pledged FIDE Master Title," said the 14-year-old Arca, the pride of Dasmariñas Chess Academy, playing under the patronage of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. and Mayor Jenny Barzaga. Arca, a Grade 8 student of Dasmariñas Integrated High School finished ot top of the boys under-18 division of the Mayor Darel Dexter Uy National Age Group Chess Championships Grand Finals as a co-champion last April in Dipolog City enroute the coveted FM title. Arca's rating jumped to 2172 after earning 94 points from the tournament in Dipolog City. Arca also holds the title of national master and online Arena Grandmaster but aims to secure three required IM norms in tournaments with rated players to accomplish his dreams to become the country's newest International Master. He is slated to compete in the GMG Youth Chess Challenge under-15 division on May 20, 2023, at the Open Kitchen Foodhall, Rockwell Business Center, Sheridan Street in Mandaluyong City and the 21st Asean+ Age Group Chess Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, to be held on June 17-27, 2023. To spice up the occasion are the participation of International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia, FIDE Masters Alekhine Nouri , Jeth Romy Morado and Dino Ballecer, Woman FIDE Master Allaney Jia Doroy, National Masters Bob Jones Liwagon, Henry Roger Lopez, Darry Bernardo, Felix Aguilera, Gladimir Chester Romero and Rey Urbiztondo and Woman National Master Rinoa Mariel Sadey.
